MILFORD, CT, August 20, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. John W. Barile, Sr. has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Barile, a distinguished educator with over three decades of experience, currently serves as the Dean of the School of Education at Central Connecticut State University (Central). Since assuming this role in July of 2025, he has already embarked on shaping the strategic direction of the newly established School of Education. His leadership is focused on identifying the school's values and aligning its goals with the University Priorities. Focus areas include enhancing Central's long standing excellence in teacher and administrator preparation. He plans to spearhead a self-study for accreditation and is committed to increasing undergraduate enrollment amid the national and state teacher shortage. He aims for the School of Education to inspire younger students to pursue careers in teaching, and encourages experienced teachers to pursue school and district leadership roles. Dr. Barile also plans to build partnerships with CT school districts in areas including credentials for certification in special education, reading specialist, and a potential three year bachelors program. Dr. Barile will endeavor to enhance the graduate programs with Teach for America, a new Masters of Arts in Teaching and continue cohort development in the Educational Leadership Department designed for aspiring principals and superintendents.

Prior to his current position at Central, Dr. Barile served as superintendent for the Brookfield Public Schools from 2015 to 2025. During this decade long tenure, he led transformational changes through inclusive and strategic leadership, building trust-based partnerships with the Board of Education, various elected boards and community stakeholders. Notably, he turned around long standing concerns in financial and regulatory controls to model business practices, developed the Brookfield Strategic Plan and its successor plan, narrowed the achievement gap, advanced the high school to recognition by the CT State Department of Education as a School of Distinction, and oversaw the construction of the new Candlewood Lake Elementary School, a state-of-the-art facility that opened in 2023. His efforts in collective bargaining resulted in approximately 30 successfully negotiated union contracts, reflecting his commitment to fostering an environment where staff and students thrive.

From 2013 to 2015, Dr. Barile was superintendent of the Bethany Public School District, where he emphasized financial management and student well-being. His earlier career includes serving as principal at Joseph A. Foran High School, West Shore Middle School, and John F. Kennedy Elementary School - all in Milford, CT. As principal, he improved student achievement in each school, led construction projects that enhanced the educational environments, and hired and developed incredible teachers and school leaders. Dr. Barile has also served as an adjunct professor at Southern Connecticut State University from 2000 to 2008.

Dr. Barile's early career includes his appointment as Dean of Students in 1998 at Roger Ludlowe Middle School after serving as a classroom teacher at Harborside Middle School. His dedication to education extends beyond administrative roles to his position as a member of CAPSS, the Connecticut Association of School Superintendents and as an intern mentor for Central's aspiring superintendent candidates. Academically, Dr. Barile earned his Doctorate in Education in Organizational Leadership from Northeastern University in 2017. He earned his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Southern Connecticut State University. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Barile has authored "Principal Leadership Behaviors' Influence on Teacher Efficacy in a Context of External Accountability," reflecting his commitment to advancing educational leadership practices. Dr. Barile recently published his book, Leading from the Core, Immediately Inspire Teacher Belief and Enhance School Culture, available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

His accolades include multiple Excellence in Communications Awards from the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE). Dr. Barile's contributions extend beyond the schoolhouse into civic engagement as well; he is a longtime supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project and has served as a volunteer youth athletic coach in Milford, coaching football, lacrosse and baseball. During his tenure in Brookfield, he served on Brookfield Cares, an organization to support mental health, and on the Brookfield Education Foundation.

Inspired by his wife Michelle and two sons, along with the rest of his family, he attributes much of his success to their support as well as his nurturing upbringing by parents who were both educators themselves. Looking toward his professional future, he plans to leverage his extensive network within Connecticut's public school system to promote excellence in education on behalf of Central Connecticut State University through strong partnerships with K-12 school districts and support educators wherever he can to give back to the profession.
