FLORISSANT, MO, August 20, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Brittney M. Watkins, Esq., has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. Ms. Watkins, an accomplished attorney with a specialization in mesothelioma law and civil rights work, has made significant strides in her legal career. Having served as an associate attorney at SWMW Law, LLC since December 2024, she is dedicated to drafting motion responses and arguing motions, preparing discovery that uncovers crucial evidence, deposing experts, writing articles on novel legal issues, leading trainings at the firm, and assisting with trial preparation, and raising awareness about the harms of asbestos exposure. Ms. Watkins was also a presenter at the 2024 Plaintiffs Asbestos Litigation Seminar, where she spoke on a panel about gender bias in the legal field and asbestos litigation. Her expertise in researching niche legal issues aids in effectively representing clients and advocating for justice.
Prior to her current role, Ms. Watkins was an associate attorney at Maune, Raichle, Hartley, French & Mudd, LLC ("MRHFM") from 2023 to 2024. At MRHFM she prepared clients for depositions, addressed their case-related inquiries, attended hearings, drafted various motion responses, and drafted discovery for her legal team. Before her role at MRHFM, Ms. Watkins worked as a staff attorney at ArchCity Defenders from 2021 to 2023. During this time, she focused on legal representation, policy development, and advocacy for families, particularly in civil rights cases addressing police accountability and systemic injustices. Her efforts, along with those of fatal state violence impacted families, community organizers, and the local community, led to significant policy changes, including the implementation of a ban on no-knock warrants and the establishment of a reparations commission in St. Louis. Additionally, she provided political education to families, equipping them with the necessary tools to advocate for themselves and amplify their stories. While at ArchCity, Ms. Watkins also taught the Fatal State Violence Liberation Lab for the 2022 Law for Black Lives Lawyering for Liberation Conference.
Ms. Watkins' legal journey began as a law clerk at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia from 2019 to 2020. She also gained valuable experience in immigration law as a student attorney at the Immigration Law Clinic at Washington University in St. Louis School of Law in 2018. She began her career as a Public Interest Law Initiative summer intern at the Chicago Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights in 2018 and as a summer honors program intern at the New York City Law Department in 2017.
Ms. Watkins' academic background includes a Juris Doctor and certificate in public interest law from Washington University School of Law, completed in 2019, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics and a certificate in Latino Studies from Princeton University. Along with her education, the support of her community has been instrumental in her success, inspiring her dedication to making a positive impact through her work.
Ms. Watkins' achievements have been recognized with numerous awards, including being named one of the Top 10 Under 40 by the National Academy of Personal Injury Attorneys in 2024 and receiving the Top 40 Under 40 accolade from both the National Trial Lawyers and National Black Lawyers from 2023 through 2025. Her commitment to public service was acknowledged with the Public Service Student of the Year award from Washington University School of Law in 2019.
While at Washington University School of Law, Ms. Watkins received the Scholar in Law Award, and, in 2018, she was awarded The Bar Plan Foundation Scholarship following nominations from her professors and the law school Dean. She was also a member of the Washington University Journal of Law and Policy and the Princeton Association of Black Women, and co-founded two organizations to serve low-income and first-generation students during her time at Princeton University, among many other affiliations.
Ms. Watkins' student note, "Kaepernick Can Kick It!: Employment Discrimination, Political Activism, and Speech in the NFL," was published in Washington University Journal of Law and Policy's 59th volume. Brittney's publication has been taught nationally in law school curricula and was a required text for the National Sports Law Institute's 30th Anniversary Conference, held at Marquette University Law School.
Outside of her professional life, Ms. Watkins enjoys poetry, singing, songwriting and being involved in her church community. She values spending time with family and friends and is passionate about expanding her impact as an attorney by assisting more people regardless of income. She aims to engage more deeply in political education work by developing curricula and conducting workshops while also writing on social justice issues. In the long term, she aspires to take on more appellate work with hopes of arguing a case before the United States Supreme Court.
