MENLO PARK, CA, August 22, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- James Vincent Eade, founder and chief executive officer of The Eade Foundation, and author of "Freedom: Your Path to Recovery," was selected by Marquis Who's Who for a prominent feature in the Northern California Edition of The Wall Street Journal, published on September 20, 2023.

Drawing deeply from the example of such figures as Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, and Martin Luther King Jr., whose selflessness provided a model he would long seek to emulate, Mr. Eade has earned acclaim as the founder and chief executive officer of the Eade Foundation. Established in 2019 as a nonprofit organization, the Eade Foundation works to spread chess literacy to underprivileged communities throughout the world. In addition to its charitable efforts in distributing game boards and offering free literature to prospective students, the Foundation has encouraged global excellence through the Arthur Award, a $1,000 prize named in honor of Mr. Eade's father, who first taught him the game during his youth.

A recognized chess master, Mr. Eade made his mark on the community in 1996 with the release of "Chess for Dummies," an introduction to the game for beginners that went on to become one of the bestselling chess books of all time. A prolific author, he went on to write "The Chess Player's Bible: Illustrated Strategies for Staying Ahead of the Game" in 2004 and "Chess Openings for Dummies" in 2010. In 2023, Mr. Eade pivoted toward themes of personal improvement with "Freedom: Your Road to Recovery," a book that invites readers to examine their behaviors and free themselves from unhealthy modes of thought. He also began producing a new program for PODTV via Roku, Amazon and YouTube, "Change Your Mind," which features guest speakers and thoughtful debate that encourages viewers to maintain an open mind.

Mr. Eade earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1978. Years later, he graduated from the University of San Francisco with a Master of Arts in human resources management and organization development in 1991. Long inspired to give back to the community that had supported him throughout his early childhood and adolescence, Mr. Eade began organizing tournaments during the 1990s, culminating in the 1995 Pan Pacific International Chess Tournament and the 1996 Hall of Fame Tournament.

To further support the field, Mr. Eade held various positions of high leadership with a number of important organizations. He is a past member of the U.S. Chess Federation (USCF) policy board, past president of the American zone of the International Chess Federation, and former president of the U.S. Chess Trust. Likewise, Mr. Eade previously served as president of the Chess Journalists of America, the Northern California Chess Federation and the Kolty Chess for Youth Foundation.

In addition to his work as an author, Mr. Eade found success during the late 1990s as the head of Hypermodern Press, a publishing company that released several acclaimed works by other luminaries of chess. He is also a former editor and publisher for the California Chess Journal and the Golden Gate Chess News.

Well-regarded for his work on behalf of the chess community, Mr. Eade was presented with the 2022 Chess Journalist of America Award for Best Chess Website and an Outstanding Career Achievement Award from the USCF in 2018. He was also recognized as the Chess Educator of the Year by the University of Texas at Dallas in 2016.
