LAS VEGAS, NV, August 26, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Spencer Baker, DMA, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Baker, a distinguished visiting assistant professor of music and faculty pianist at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, has made significant contributions to the field of music through his extensive career. Since assuming his current role in 2019, he has been an integral part of the university's piano department, where he also assists the voice department by accompanying numerous opera performances. His role extends to leading a collaborative class and playing for the opera workshop and various other productions. Additionally, he teaches private piano students and offers applied lessons for both undergraduate and master's students in collaborative piano. His involvement in new committees and planned activities further underscores his commitment to the institution. He is also the organist/pianist for University United Methodist Church since 2024.
He previously served as the director of music at Saint Timothy's Episcopal Church, contributed as director of music ministries at Green Valley Presbyterian Church from 2012 to 2018, and as a pianist at Nellis Air Force Base for the preceding four years.
In addition to his academic roles, Mr. Baker has established himself as a collaborative artist under Spencer Baker, Pianist since 2010. Prior to this, he spent over two decades as an accompanist and teacher from 1997 to 2019. He has also participated in Tessitura, a resident ensemble of Voccalis International Singing Repertory Company, since 2012.
Mr. Baker's educational background is rooted in the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he earned a Doctorate of Musical Arts in piano performance in 2016. He previously obtained a master's degree in 2004 and a bachelor's degree in 2000 from the same institution, setting the stage for his subsequent professional work there. Beyond his education, he credits his success to his flexibility, openness to opportunities and a down-to-earth personality that fostered strong professional relationships.
Mr. Baker's academic journey has been distinctive, as a first-generation college student who pursued higher education without familial support. Although his family initially had concerns about the challenges of a music career and encouraged him to consider alternative paths, they are now proud of his accomplishments and frequently travel to Las Vegas to attend his performances.
Throughout his career, Mr. Baker has been recognized for his numerous industry contributions and achievements. He was awarded the Alumni Project Seed Grant for an Alumni Recital Series in 2023 and won the Liberace Competition in 2004. His accolades also include an academic scholarship and the Albert Scholarship from the University of Nevada, as well as a service award from the Las Vegas Music Teachers Association.
Beyond his professional commitments, Mr. Baker is active in civic work, serving as a faculty adviser for the collegiate chapter of the University of Nevada of the Las Vegas Music Teachers Association. He also engages in community outreach at assisted living facilities and supports community events and recitals.
In his personal life, he enjoys hiking, watching movies and caring for his two dogs. Having begun playing the piano by ear at the age of three, he later learned to read music with guidance from his grandmother, a choir alto. By fifth grade, he had already set his sights on becoming a concert pianist.
In the upcoming years, Mr. Baker aims to establish a collaborative piano program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. This initiative seeks to address an area currently lacking dedicated faculty and necessary classes despite offering a collaborative piano degree. Additionally, he plans to continue his involvement with an opera program in Italy, further expanding his influence and expertise on an international scale. Believing that the performing arts are valuable in today's society, he encourages others to follow their dreams and study music if they have the passion to succeed.
