Leland Alan Hall enjoyed a distinguished career dedicated to education, literature and civic engagement. Retired after 30 years in academia, he served as an English teacher and department chair for high school English and drama from 1962 to 1993. During his tenure, he influenced generations of students, fostering a love for critical thinking, literature and the performing arts.

Mr. Hall's professional journey began after earning a Bachelor of Arts with Honors from the University of Oregon. Initially prepared for a college teaching path, his path shifted during the Vietnam War era when he opted for a deferment to complete his studies. This decision allowed him to accept a temporary position teaching high school English and drama, ideal for his extensive academic background.

Mr. Hall was elected as the first two-year president of the Oregon Education Association, representing teachers of the entire state. In this capacity, he made significant contributions to educational policy and advocacy, including sitting in with the State Board of Education. His monthly column for the Oregon Education newspaper approached editorial projects with scholarly rigor; his expertise in editorial writing was enhanced by coursework in Greek, Latin and literary analysis at the graduate level.

In 1978, Mr. Hall acquired a fourplex property, expanding his versatility; management responsibilities within the real estate sector has provided freedom to write.

Mr. Hall's commitment to professional development is reflected by his long standing membership in Willamette Writers in Portland. He transitioned from editorials to writing fiction.

In 2006, Mr. Hall founded Diphra Enterprises as a venue for publishing his groundbreaking novels. Inspired by an incident involving irresponsible media coverage of abuse, he was prompted to explore fiction as a means of addressing the complex social issue with humor and insight. Under the penname Eldot [ L. ], he authored seven novels and is working on his eighth. His books are recognized for a unique perspective that enables readers to focus on overlooked, avoided and difficult subjects with a positive outlook; all have received outstanding reviews.

Throughout his life, Mr. Hall has maintained strong civic affiliations. He is a donor to several children's charities including the Make-A-Wish Foundation and supports social causes and community well-being via the American Civil Liberties Union, Red Cross, and many environmental non-profit organizations.

Mr. Hall attributes much of his success to the values instilled in him by his upbringing. Guided by lessons from his parents emphasizing empathy, attentiveness and consideration for others, he has consistently sought to be helpful. 'If it's worth doing, it's worth doing well' has been his guiding principle.
