Prior to these roles, he thrived as a senior workplace strategist at Gallup from 2021 to 2022 and as a content manager there from 2019 to 2021. He is particularly proud of his contributions to the Fortune 500 through his Gallup tenure, especially the durability of the hybrid remote workplace policies he installed, which remain in effect many years later.

From 2015 through 2019, Dr. Hickman was a senior leading consultant at Gallup, providing expert guidance on leadership development and organizational effectiveness. His presence in the field is further defined by his success as the manager of business knowledge, leadership and strategy at Consumers Energy from 2013 to 2015, where Dr. Hickman led initiatives focused on enhancing business operations and leadership capabilities within the company.

Dr. Hickman initiated his career with AT&T, where he held a series of positions over nearly a decade. From 2012 to 2013, he was an associate project manager, and between 2008 and 2012, he worked as lead training delivery manager, collaborating on the design and delivery of training programs to advance employee performance. As a team manager from 2004 to 2008, Dr. Hickman earned foundational skills in team leadership and management.

A passion for continuous learning prompted Dr. Hickman to pursue academic excellence. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in corporate communications with a minor in business from Hiram College, which he completed in 2012 before earning two master's degrees in 2015, both from Walden University: a Master of Philosophy in management and a Master of Business Administration in organizational leadership. Dr. Hickman is also proud to have earned a terminal degree in his field and finished a Doctor of Philosophy in organizational development from Walden University in 2019.

Dr. Hickman's impressive profile is further shaped by numerous certifications. In 2024, he completed the cybersecurity governance for the board of directors program at MIT Sloan School of Management and secured certification in people analytics from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in 2017. Additional credentials include completion of the breakthrough leadership program with Harvard Business Publishing in 2015, a certificate in executive management from Executive Education at the University of Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business, dating to 2015, and recognition as a TalentSmart certified instructor by TalentSmartEQ in 2014. In 2013, Dr. Hickman completed his first executive education certificate at Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan as an emerging leader.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Dr. Hickman is committed to civic engagement through involvement with organizations such as Make-A-Wish Foundation, the American Red Cross, and local Shrine Club chapters, where he donates time and resources. Since 2024, he has also served as an advisory board member for Corporate Learning Network and holds membership in the Society for Human Resource Management. In addition, Dr. Hickman is a recognized scholar and author with three published books to his credit, one of which has been adopted as a textbook at the university level.
