As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. DellaFranco has established a distinguished career in the energy sector, currently serving as the vice president of refining at BP's Whiting Refinery since 2024. Whiting, the seventh largest refinery in the US, and the largest in the Midwest, has over 3,000 employees and contractors working to support its operations. Whiting generates over 60,000 jobs in the area and has provided over $10M in community support over the past several years.
In his role, DellaFranco leads and develops high-performing teams while fostering individual growth and promoting a culture of safety and accountability. His management responsibilities include overseeing daily operations, ensuring safety standards and regulatory compliance are met and working closely with internal departments to optimize performance. He also engages with community leaders and government officials, manages project approvals and reviews and helps shape future site strategies and priorities through careful planning and collaboration.
Prior to his current position, Mr. DellaFranco held a long tenure at ExxonMobil, culminating in his role as the refinery operations manager from 2022 to 2024. For the preceding four years, he served as the operations department manager, where he transformed a struggling department into a model of success by significantly improving safety, efficiency and environmental standards. This achievement remains one of his most notable career milestones.
From 2017 to 2018, Mr. DellaFranco held the position of coordinator and economics department manager at ExxonMobil. Before that, he was the global product manager for two years, where he played a crucial role in driving product innovation and market expansion. His earlier roles included serving as the North America business development executive from 2014 to 2015 and as the business analysis and reporting manager for the preceding two years.
Mr. DellaFranco's career began with foundational roles that honed his technical expertise and leadership skills, primarily at ExxonMobil. He was the process turnaround manager from 2011 to 2012 and the regional business supervisor from 2010 to 2011. His journey at the firm also included positions as a process engineering section supervisor, refinery coordinator and ninety-day refinery economic planner, among several others.
Educationally, Mr. DellaFranco's background laid a strong foundation for his professional achievements. He earned a Master of Business Administration in finance from the A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University in 2007 and a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Penn State University in 2002.
Reflecting on his career, Mr. DellaFranco credits his success to the mentorship he has received and values it as a two-way exchange where learning flows both ways. Guided by his personal mantra — the "three H's" of hard work, honesty and humility — he believes these principles are essential for growth, resilience and effective collaboration. His faith further reinforces these values, helping him navigate challenges and foster meaningful relationships.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. DellaFranco is actively involved in civic organizations, such as People's Church of Chicago, the United Way and the Veterans Association. Additionally, he serves on the board of directors for Ivy Technical College and served as a volunteer firefighter at the Chalmette refinery for 10 years. In his free time, he enjoys exercising regularly through weightlifting and running, exploring new restaurants, reading books on leadership and organizational behavior, listening to podcasts and spending time outdoors with his family.
In the upcoming years, Mr. DellaFranco is planning to focus on shaping the future of the manufacturing and energy industries by preventing past mistakes.
