Dr. Day, born in Portsmouth, has established a distinguished career at the intersection of software engineering and data science, marked by adaptability and a commitment to innovation. Over more than two decades, he has demonstrated expertise across the full spectrum of the software development lifecycle, including manual testing, test automation, software development, solutions architecture and enterprise architecture. His ability to transition from quality assurance testing, a field where movement into development roles was once uncommon, into advanced development and data science roles underscores his versatility and forward-thinking approach.

Currently, Dr. Day serves as principal data scientist at Wellstar Health System in Atlanta, Georgia, a role he began in 2025. In this capacity, he analyzes data, coordinates and designs architecture and builds pipelines for data collection. He is responsible for training models, experimenting with new application programming interfaces or libraries and training team members on best practices. He also conducts evaluations of new artificial intelligence tools under consideration for implementation by Wellstar Health System and oversees projects from architectural design through production and deployment across the enterprise. He is particularly proud of his work applying artificial intelligence in health care to improve patient outcomes. This professional highlight aligns with his passion for leveraging technology to make a meaningful impact.

Since 2023, Dr. Day has also held the position of chief software and systems architect for the VES Portfolio at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. In this role, he leads efforts in designing robust system architectures and integrating advanced technologies to support critical services for veterans.

In addition to these primary roles, Dr. Day has served as managing principal at Catch My Code in Atlanta since 2016, where he provides strategic leadership and technical guidance on complex software projects. From 2022 to 2024, he was a principal data scientist at Microsoft, contributing to cutting-edge initiatives in artificial intelligence and machine learning operations. He also held the title of chief technology officer at Tomestic, Inc. from 2021 to 2024 and served as chief technology officer and board member at Move Upward from 2020 to 2024.

Dr. Day's tenure at Microsoft also included serving as principal software engineering lead from 2021 to 2022. Previously, he was chief enterprise architect for data and analytics at GE Digital from 2018 to 2021. He initially joined GE Digital as a principal software architect and data scientist in 2018 and then became a senior staff software architect and engineering lead in 2017.

His earlier career includes positions such as principal application developer and software architect at ADP, Inc., from 2016 to 2017, principal software engineer and solutions architect at The Weather Company, LLC, from 2014 to 2016, and solutions architect at ABB from 2013 to 2014. Similarly, he was a senior software developer at Oracle from 2012 to 2013. Dr. Day also contributed as lead software engineer at GE Energy between 2010 and 2012 and held several contract roles with HP Development Company, L.P., including lead software engineer in 2009, senior software developer from 2008 to 2009, software engineer in 2008 and associate software engineer from 2006 to 2008.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Day worked as a field service engineer I at Diagnostica Stago in the Greater Denver Area from 2004 to 2005 and as a field engineer at GE Healthcare in Little Rock from 2003 to 2004.

He has been a member of IEEE since 1999, reflecting his ongoing commitment to professional growth within the technology sector.

Dr. Day's academic achievements have played a pivotal role in shaping his career trajectory. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy in computational engineering from Mississippi State University in 2024. He holds two master's degrees from Georgia Institute of Technology: one in computer science, awarded in 2021, and another in applied systems engineering, completed in 2013. His foundational education includes dual Bachelor of Science degrees in electronic engineering and computer engineering technology from DeVry University, conferred in 2002.

He has further enhanced his credentials through several industry certifications, including Tech Executive Leadership Initiative Graduate from Aspen Policy Academy, which he earned in 2023, certified solutions architect – associate from Amazon Web Services Inc. that he completed in 2019, certified associate Java SE 7 programmer from Oracle, which he received in 2013, Six Sigma green belt from General Electric Company that he completed in 2010 and certified software test automation specialist from International Institute for Software Testing.

Dr. Day attributes his success to his faith and an unwavering desire for continuous improvement, qualities that have fueled both his personal growth and professional accomplishments.

Beyond his technical contributions, Dr. Day is civically engaged as a group leader for high school students through his church community. His dedication has been recognized with honors such as the GE Change Agent Award from GE Energy in 2010.

A prolific contributor to research and innovation, Dr. Day has co-authored several publications including "Generating Host-Based Data from Network Traces for Intrusion Detection" presented at the IEEE Computer Society Conference on Data Sciences Analytics & Technologies in 2023; "Autonomic Feature Selection Using Computational Intelligence" published by Future Generation Computer Systems in 2020; "Residential Power Load Forecasting" featured by Procedia Computer Science in 2014; "n-Tiered Test Automation Architecture for Agile Software Systems" also published by Procedia Computer Science in 2014; as well as significant contributions to the Distributed Performance Research & Testing Lab between 2014 and 2016 and the GE Demand Response Management System project from 2009 to 2012.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Day enjoys reading technical topics, refining his craft within data science, exploring mechatronics and robotics, traveling and spending time with his family, which includes three children. Looking ahead, he aims to refine his expertise further while continuing to advance health care technologies that positively impact patients' lives.
