A distinguished figure with more than four decades of experience in nursing and health care leadership, Ms. Hudson serves as the senior director of care management and utilization review at Valleywise Health. In her current role since 2017, she is responsible for strategic program development, mentoring emerging leaders and empowering staff through a servant leadership approach. She considers her most significant accomplishment to be witnessing her staff evolve into leaders themselves, both within Valleywise Health and in other organizations, leaving a lasting legacy of empowerment and excellence in the health care sector.

Renowned as an expert in care management, care coordination and population health, Ms. Hudson held the position of director of utilization management at Community Health Group in Chula Vista, California, from 2016 to 2017. During this time, she oversaw utilization review protocols and ensured compliance with regulatory standards. Prior to that, she served as the professional services manager at MedAssets — a Georgia-based medical performance improvement firm — where she managed clinical operations and contributed to the optimization of health care delivery systems.

Ms. Hudson's well-traveled journey includes a six-year tenure at Scottsdale Health Care, now HonorHealth, where she further solidified her expertise in collaborative care as the system manager of case management from 2010 to 2013. Her earlier roles at Scottsdale include utilization management supervisor at from 2008 to 2010 and emergency room case manager in 2008.

From 2005 to 2006, Ms. Hudson worked as an onsite case manager for UnitedHealth Group, where she was responsible for utilization management and patient care planning. Her leadership experience also includes serving as the regional director of nursing at Centrum Health Care from 1998 to 2005, where she managed staff operations across multiple facilities. Her foundational years were spent as a relief charge nurse in critical care at Mesa General Hospital from 1986 to 1998, providing direct patient care and supervising nursing teams in high-acuity settings.

In addition to her primary roles, Ms. Hudson has contributed her expertise as a case management consultant and clinical documentation specialist throughout the United States for several years. She is also active as a writer, public speaker and presenter on topics including pediatric care management programs — most recently presenting at a national conference in 2025 — and has delivered talks on care management, behavioral health and transitional care.

Reflecting her commitment to advancing best practices in case management, Ms. Hudson is an active member of the American Case Management Association and served as its treasurer from 2017 to 2024. She is also affiliated with the Case Management Society of America, which engages in collaborative and educational efforts throughout the health care industry.

Dedicated to the ideals of continuous learning, Ms. Hudson earned a Master of Science in Nursing in 2013 after completing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2011, both at Chamberlain University. She began her formal education with an associate degree in nursing in 1985. To expand her medical qualifications, she has been licensed as a practical nurse since 1984 and is certified as a registered nurse, case manager and clinical documentation specialist.

Reflecting on her storied journey thus far, Ms. Hudson attributes her accomplishments to perseverance, collaboration, a strong commitment to sharing knowledge gained through hard work and a passion for mentoring future industry leaders. Her ability to train others — a central theme throughout her career — has resulted in several individuals advancing into leadership positions under her guidance; she continues to mentor two current leaders as part of her succession plan at Valleywise Health.

Inspired by a deep love for helping people that began at age 14 when her father arranged for her to care for two elderly women, Ms. Hudson found joy in supporting patients early on — a calling that led her into nursing. Today, she emphasizes holistic training for new nurses and advocates for patients and families navigating complex health challenges.

Also known for her efforts to give back to her community, Ms. Hudson is engaged as a volunteer with foundations aiding underserved populations and participates with local organizations similar to the National Association for Mental Health. A proud mother of two sons, she is deeply devoted to her family life and enjoys yoga, gardening and spending time with her pets outside of work. Looking toward the future, she intends to continue her consulting and public speaking engagements with broader audiences, furthering her impact as a collaborative and compassionate leader in the health care sector.
