In addition to his role at Mars Hill University, Mr. Wright is the owner of D.B. Wright Consulting LLC, which he established in 2017. Through this venture, he provides strategic financial consulting services, drawing on his extensive experience in both higher education and banking.
Prior to joining Mars Hill University, Mr. Wright dedicated more than a decade to Young Harris College in North Georgia. His tenure began in 2012 as assistant controller, where he managed accounting functions during a period of significant institutional growth. In 2018, he was promoted to associate vice president for finance and operations, overseeing broader aspects of the college's financial health. From 2019 to 2021, he served as chief operations officer before advancing to vice president for finance and operations from 2021 to 2024. Throughout these roles, Mr. Wright played a pivotal part in supporting the college's transition from a two-year to a four-year institution and was known for his collaborative approach with faculty and staff.
Concurrently with his administrative duties at Young Harris College, Mr. Wright served as an adjunct instructor of accounting and finance from 2018 to 2024. In this capacity, he shared his industry knowledge with students, furthering his commitment to education.
Before entering higher education administration, Mr. Wright spent eight years as a commercial loan officer at United Community Bank from 2004 to 2011. There, he managed a portfolio valued at approximately $140 million in North Georgia—a significant responsibility for the region—and navigated the challenges of the late-2000s recession with resilience.
Mr. Wright's professional achievements are complemented by active membership in several industry organizations, including the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Gamma Sigma.
His academic background includes a Master of Business Administration and a master's degree in accounting from Mercer University's Stetson School of Business and Economics in Macon, both completed in 2016. He also earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in management and economics in 2002 from Berry College in Mount Berry, where he was named a WinShape Scholar, and is credentialed as a certified public accountant.
Mr. Wright attributes his success to a common-sense approach instilled by his upbringing among hardworking individuals in Cordele and shaped by lessons learned from both grandfathers about effective problem-solving. He credits strong leadership over the past decade and a half for providing opportunities for professional growth.
Civically engaged, Mr. Wright serves as treasurer at his church and volunteers as a coach for his children's football, baseball and basketball teams—roles that reflect his dedication to community involvement and youth development. He has also contributed to Kiwanis activities within the North Georgia District.
In his personal life, Mr. Wright cherishes spending time with his family, including his wife and their four children, and enjoys golf, fly fishing and coaching youth sports.
