DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA, September 09, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Philip L. Ryder has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Currently serving as an environmental manager at Ames Construction, Mr. Ryder has built a prominent career in environmental supervision, compliance and geology. In his role, he is responsible for securing and enforcing air and water quality permits, as well as stormwater, dust control and screening permits for the company's western region, which includes Arizona and California. He supervises two employees — one in each state — whom he mentors with the intention of developing their skills to eventually succeed him. Along with his primary role, he also leads environmental training initiatives for Ames Construction West.

Prior to reaching his current positions at Ames Construction, Mr. Ryder served as the environmental manager of the organization's southwestern region from 2016 to 2024. In this capacity, he managed environmental compliance across a broad geographic area, ensuring that all operations adhered to regulatory standards and best practices. His leadership was pivotal in fostering a culture of environmental responsibility within the organization.

From 2013 to 2015, Mr. Ryder worked as a storm water specialist at AMEC Environment & Infrastructure (now part of Wood PLC). There, he applied his expertise in stormwater compliance to support infrastructure projects, further honing his skills in environmental permitting and regulatory adherence. A pivotal career shift toward environmental compliance began with his tenure as the district environmental manager at Kiewit from 2007 to 2012. After being approached by Kiewit following a significant storm event that impacted a construction project, he began his journey into stormwater management — a field in which he would become an expert.

Before transitioning into environmental compliance roles, Mr. Ryder built a strong foundation in geology. He served as a senior exploration geologist for the Resolution Copper mining project in Superior, Arizona, from 2005 to 2007 and as an exploration geologist at Round Mountain Gold Corporation from 2004 to 2005. In each of these positions, he conducted geological assessments critical to mining operations.

From 2000 to 2004, Mr. Ryder was an adjunct instructor at Chandler Gilbert Community College, where he taught geology courses and worked with ninth- and tenth-grade at-risk students through a specialized program from 2001 to 2002. Although the program was discontinued after one year due to funding reallocations, his dedication and compassion left a lasting impact on the students he mentored.

Throughout his professional journey, Mr. Ryder has become recognized as an industry leader in air and water quality permitting, stormwater compliance and overall environmental compliance. To stay at the forefront of his field and maintain best safety practices, he is an active member of the American Association of General Contractors, the International Erosion Control Association, the Arizona Chapter Association of General Contractors and the Geological Society of America.

Mr. Ryder's equally impressive educational background has been instrumental in shaping his career trajectory. He earned a master's degree in geology from Arizona State University in 1999 after completing a bachelor's degree in geology at Commonwealth University-Lock Haven in 1993. Dedicated to the ideals of continuous learning, he was certified as an erosion control coordinator by the Arizona Department of Transportation in 2007 and holds several additional certificates in stormwater inspection, waste operations and consulting. Furthermore, he successfully completed a 30-hour construction safety course through OSHAcademy Safety and Health Training in 2020.

Along with his education, Mr. Ryder attributes his success to effective delegation, autonomy in carrying out responsibilities and the trust placed in him by colleagues and supervisors alike. He values collaboration and team building, both of which have enabled him to support others' career development while achieving organizational goals. His passion for environmental issues stems from a deep sense of responsibility toward preserving air and water quality for future generations — a motivation that continues to drive his work within the civil construction industry.

Contributing meaningfully to industry dialogue on best environmental practices, Mr. Ryder is also an accomplished presenter and author within his field. He has spoken at numerous conferences on a wide range of topics including construction challenges caused by climate change, construction management and geologic evolution. Determined to make a difference through civic engagement as well, he has served on both the Environmental Steering Committee and the National Climate Change Working Group for the Association of General Contractors since 2023.

Looking toward the future, Mr. Ryder aspires to further enhance Ames Construction's environmental program under the mentorship of its current director, striving for consistent excellence in compliance while supporting those around him both professionally and personally. He credits much of his inspiration to his spouse, whose dedication as a nurse practitioner exemplifies commitment to self-improvement — a value mirrored throughout Mr. Ryder's own career journey.
