DOVER, NH, September 10, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- William R. Harbron, EdD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Harbron has built a distinguished career in education spanning more than five decades, marked by a steadfast commitment to student-centered leadership and community stewardship. In 2025, he established WRH Coaching and Consulting LLC, where he now serves as executive coach and consultant. Through this venture, he has focused on coaching, drawing on his extensive experience to support professional growth and help resolve work-related challenges. He credits his wife, an active educator, for encouraging him to remain engaged in the field and channel his passion for one-on-one mentorship.
Prior to launching his consultancy, Dr. Harbron served as the superintendent and chief executive officer of Dover School District from 2017 to 2025. When he arrived, the district was deeply divided following negative experiences with previous leadership. An assistant superintendent noted that Dr. Harbron was selected because the district needed healing, a need he came to understand as he navigated significant challenges, including three student suicides and a racial incident involving a teacher during his first two years. These events tested his resolve but also deepened his wisdom and reinforced his belief that education must remain a caring profession focused on supporting students, families and staff. Dr. Harbron prioritized unifying the district, valuing employees and keeping the core mission of educating children at the forefront. He is most proud of helping Dover move toward becoming a cohesive community and left confident in the leadership team's ability to continue this progress.
For the preceding six years, Dr. Harbron led the West Muskingum Local School District as superintendent, where he continued his pattern of guiding districts through periods of transition and growth. This tenure was preceded by his work as superintendent of the Northern Ozaukee School District. There, he implemented innovative programs and presented area workshops on creating high-performing teams and honor-level discipline programs.
From 2001 to 2002, Dr. Harbron worked as a consultant for CESA 7, providing expertise in educational leadership and organizational development. For the preceding two years, he was superintendent of the School District of Denmark, where he continued to emphasize relationship-building and strategic vision. His administrative experience includes serving as a middle school principal in Appleton Area, Maple Dale-Indian Hill and West Muskingum School Districts from 1985 to 1999. Before that, he was an elementary school principal in Bowling Green City and Ross Local School Districts after beginning his career as a teacher with Forest Park-Green Hills and Edgewood City School Districts.
Throughout his career, Dr. Harbron has been recognized for his expertise in professional development and team building. He has presented on these topics at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee North Shore Conference on Professional Learning Communities and served as a guest lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, St. Norbert College and Marian College. He also maintains active membership in many professional organizations, including the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the American Association of School Administrators, among many others.
Academically, Dr. Harbron's credentials include a Doctor of Education in educational leadership and administration from Edgewood University in 2007 and a specialist degree in educational leadership and administration from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1998. He also holds a master's degree in educational leadership and a bachelor's degree in elementary education and teaching, both earned at Miami University in Oxford.
Overall, Dr. Harbron attributes his success to the values instilled in him by his parents, such as a strong work ethic, trust and accountability. His mother's role as a school secretary taught him respect for all positions within education. He also learned lessons through scouting, particularly the importance of leaving every place better than he found it and believes humility, faith and collaboration are essential qualities for effective leadership.
Recognized for his work, Dr. Harbron has received the Highest Award of Achievement from Dale Carnegie in 2002 and a nomination for Readers' Digest American Heroes in Education in 1998. Earlier distinctions include multiple awards from the Ohio Association of Elementary Administrators, recognition in Who's Who in Education and being named an Outstanding Educator by Phi Delta Kappa at Bowling Green State University. His earliest honor was earning the Eagle Scout Award in 1967.
Outside his professional life, Dr. Harbron enjoys spending time with his family, including his two daughters and their families, and is active civically through membership on the advisory board for Stratford County YMCA and co-founded the steering committee for Dover Mental Health Alliance. Looking toward the future, he intends to continue public speaking engagements with a particular focus on individual coaching, an endeavor that reflects his lifelong commitment to nurturing growth within others while advancing the mission of education as a force for positive change within communities.
