Since 2022, Dr. Vyas has served as chief human resources officer at Keck Medicine of USC. In this capacity, she oversees human resources for theentire health enterprise, which encompasses four hospitals and more than 90 ambulatory locations, as well as three clinics in Las Vegas with a fourth scheduled to open. As the principal human resources executive for the system, Dr. Vyas leads a complex reporting structure involving multiple leaders of human resources across different hospitals and ambulatory sites. She reports directly to the chief executive officer of the health system and serves as the chief strategic business advisor on human resources matters to executive leadership. Her portfolio includes talent acquisition, compensation, employee labor relations, organizational development, learning, internal communications, inclusion and culture, and event management. Notably, she spearheaded the workforce integration of USC Arcadia following its acquisition by Keck Medicine of USC in July 2022, initiating a comprehensive three-year plan for full workforce integration by 2025.
Dr. Vyas is also an adjunct professor of management and organization at the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business, a role she has held since 2023. She continues to make significant contributions to academic discourse and professional development in the field of management education.
From 2020 to 2022, Dr. Vyas served as deputy chief human resources officer for UC Davis Health. In this executive position, she provided strategic leadership for the human resources function and team across UC Davis Health's workforce of approximately 15,000 employees. Her oversight extended to the medical center, all ambulatory locations, the UC Davis School of Medicine and the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. As a key member of the system-wide human resources leadership team and an executive partner to the chief executive officer's team, Dr. Vyas played a pivotal role in shaping organizational policy and program development during COVID. Her major accomplishment at UC Davis Health was the launch of Digital Workplace program, one of the first comprehensively designed and deployed remote work program in the healthcare industry.
Her tenure at Stanford Medicine Enterprise spanned over 14 years, beginning in 2006 at Stanford University Medical Center. Initially serving as a compensation manager responsible for operations, performance management, and compensation programs for both adult and pediatric hospitals, Dr. Vyas was promoted in 2009 to director of total rewards and recognition. She managed these programs until late 2012 when the two hospitals became separate employers.
Choosing to remain with Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford as it evolved into Stanford Children's Health, Dr. Vyas assumed additional functions and stayed with the organization as the executive director of human resources from 2013 to 2020. Her responsibilities at Stanford Children's expanded significantly to include talent acquisition, workforce planning, and people analytics - functions that she established from inception, as well as serving as executive human resources business partner for all non-clinical areas including strategy and planning, corporate marketing and communications, information technology, accounting and finance, and government and community relations. In 2018, she assumed responsibility for diversity and inclusion initiatives by establishing the organization's first DE&I function and representing the hospital on the Stanford Medicine diversity cabinet.
Dr. Vyas's academic contributions are equally notable. From 2017 to 2023, she served as adjunct faculty at San Jose State University's Lucas College & Graduate School of Business, before joining the University of Southern California's Marshall School of Business as an adjunct professor six months later. Over nine years she taught at leading institutions while maintaining her leadership roles in academic medical centers.
Before her time at Stanford Medicine Enterprise, Dr. Vyas began her career in the United States at San Jose State University's human resources department, following her 2002 terminal master's degree in industrial-organizational psychology. From 2002 to 2006, she led talent management and workforce planning programs at San Jose State University—the largest campus within California State University, where her responsibilities included compensation, recruitment, HRIS administration, performance management and organizational development along with union bargaining activities.
Earlier in her career, Dr. Vyas worked as an HR/OD consultant for Zomax Incorporated from 2001 to 2002 while completing her master's degree. Reporting directly to the global vice president of human resources at Zomax Incorporated, a company headquartered in Ireland with U.S. operations, she developed a global compensation program. She addressed high turnover rates at their Concord call center through innovative recruitment and retention strategies, including a personality inventory that became her master's thesis.
Between 1999 and 2001, Dr. Vyas undertook consulting projects with several Silicon Valley firms, including IBM, where she assessed mid-level manager productivity, Turbo Linux, where she developed an employee survey and Hampton Real Estate, where she conducted needs analysis for change management interventions during organizational restructuring.
Before relocating to the United States in March 1998, Dr. Vyas served as personnel manager at Bikaner Ceramics Private Limited in India from 1995 to 1998, where she facilitated policy implementation and employee relations.
Dr. Vyas is recognized for her active involvement in professional organizations, including serving on the board of directors for International Association for Human Resources Information Management from 2019-2022, and membership in CHIEF, the Academy of Management, the American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration, the Forbes Human Resources Council, the Harvard Business Review Advisory Council, HR People + Strategy, Human Capital Institute, the Society for Human Resource Management, the SHRM Executive Network and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP).
Her educational background includes a Doctor of Philosophy in organization and management from Capella University, completed in 2015, a Master of Science in industrial-organizational psychology from San Jose State University, earned in 2002, and a bachelor's degree from Jai Narain Vyas University, Jodhpur, awarded in 1995.
