Dr. Crone contributed his expertise as a member of the board of directors for ProCare Riaya Hospital and ProCare Fakhry Hospital in Dammam, Saudi Arabia from 2011 to 2015. Between 2012 and 2014, he was a committee member on the National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation with the U.S. Department of Education. From 2010 to 2012, Dr. Crone chaired the composite committee for the United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLE) under the Federation of State Medical Boards and National Board of Medical Examiners, dedicating twelve years to accreditation and certification processes for both international physicians and U.S. medical graduates completing their licensure through USMLE.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Crone was managing director and founder of the global health care practice at Huron Consulting Group Inc. from 2007 to 2011, where he established their international consulting group focused on healthcare and education. From 1994 to 2007, he was the founding president and chief executive officer of Harvard Medical International while also serving as dean for international programs and clinical professor of anaesthesia at Harvard Medical School, Harvard University. In these roles, he developed a consulting agency leveraging Harvard faculty expertise to support health care projects in approximately twenty developing countries.

Dr. Crone's leadership extended to Project HOPE from 1984 to 1995 , first as volunteer and subsequently as senior vice president for international programs, where he managed global initiatives providing medical care and education in various countries. Before this, he was a professor and director of the department of anesthesiology at the University of Washington School of Medicine from 1988 to 1992.

From 1980 to 1988, Dr. Crone served as associate professor of anaesthesia at Boston Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, where he was the founding director of multidisciplinary intensive care units. His earlier tenure included roles as resident, attending anesthesiologist and pediatrician, as well as associate director of pediatric intensive care at Massachusetts General Hospital from 1974 to 1980.

Throughout his career, Dr. Crone has maintained active membership in several professional organizations, including diplomate status with The American Board of Pediatrics and The American Board of Anesthesiology and their sub boards in critical care medicine. He was also affiliated with the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Society for Critical Care Medicine and the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia.

Dr. Crone's educational journey began with pre-medical coursework at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York in Buffalo in 1968, before being accepted into Albany Medical College at Albany Med Health System after three years. This accelerated path allowed him early entry into medical school. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Albany Medical College in Albany in 1972.

He completed his pediatrics residency program and anesthesiology residency program at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston by 1976, followed by clinical fellowships leading to board certification in both pediatrics and anesthesiology that same year. In addition, Dr. Crone received a certificate of study in fetal and neonatal cardiovascular physiology from the Cardiovascular Research Institute at the University of California, San Francisco in 1977.

Furthering his leadership skills, Dr. Crone obtained certificates from the Program for Chiefs of Clinical Services and the Advanced Program for Chiefs of Clinical Services at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston in 1989.

Dr. Crone attributes his success to his ability to communicate effectively and empathize with individuals regardless of background or circumstance. This quality has enabled him to support diverse communities worldwide throughout his career.

His initial interest in medicine stemmed from training as a physician with a focus on acute care for children—a field then lacking sufficient professionals—which led him through pediatrics training at Massachusetts General Hospital before expanding into anesthesiology due to its central role in critical care programs there. This dual expertise positioned him as associate director of pediatric critical care at Mass General before moving on to establish critical care programs at Boston Children's Hospital and later lead anesthesia departments at Seattle Children's Hospital.

While based in Boston and Seattle, Dr. Crone volunteered extensively with Project HOPE—first aboard its hospital ship delivering medical care globally, then transitioning into land-based programs supporting healthcare needs during pivotal moments such as the Soviet Union's transition period.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Dr. Crone is a supporter of World Ocean School, a civic-minded organization dedicated to experiential education for underprivileged children through sailing in New England and the Caribbean.

Born in Pittsburgh, Dr. Crone enjoys gardening, traveling between St. Croix and Boston and spending time with family, including three daughters and eight grandchildren, with his wife, Amanda Pullen Crone, who holds a Doctorate degree originally from Britain but now a U.S. citizen actively involved in many professional projects alongside him, including Project HOPE, Harvard and Strategy Implementation initiatives.

Looking ahead, Dr. Crone aims to continue fostering connections within the medical community while providing mentorship and support to colleagues and trainees navigating their own career paths, an endeavor he considers integral at this stage in his life's work.
