Since 2022, she has served as a senior legislative and policy advisor for the Massachusetts State Senate, The General Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Also a prominent C-level leader, she has demonstrated her ability to address complex issues and create substantial value, a testament to her strategic, fundraising, financial structuring and problem-solving prowess.
In addition to her advisory position, Dr. Swamy is a managing partner and co-founder at IoTask LLC, an innovation consulting firm, where she has worked with MIT corporation to help found "The Engine," conceptualize "MIT Opencourseware," co-founded several investment vehicles such as Aina Climate AI Ventures, and deliver innovation projects to marquee clients including MIT, Accenture, Nature Conservancy, Fabindia Overseas Pvt. Ltd, Government of Maui, etc. In this role, Dr. Swamy has also co-founded and served on the boards of four tech startups, which were successfully acquired by marquee organizations including Checkpoint, Cyota (RSA) and PCRI.
Dr. Swamy's remarkable career also includes significant contributions to the investment sector. She worked as an investment professional with The Carlyle Group Inc. in San Francisco from 2006 to 2008 during which she gained valuable experience in sourcing, portfolio management and investment exits, and learned the fundamentals of private capital investment as a venture consultant for Matrix Partners from 2005 to 2006. Her earlier roles include marketing manager at MathWorks Inc., associate consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton and research staff at Mentor Graphics (now K2 Engineering Services Inc.).
Academically, Dr. Swamy earned a Bachelor of Technology in electrical and electronics engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in 1991. She returned to the United States, to pursue a Masters and Doctor of Philosophy in computer engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, graduating in 1997. Determined to make an impact outside the classroom, she was also a co-founder of the school's Women in Technology initiative and was recognized as a fellow of the National Science Foundation. Committed to the ideals of continuous learning, she furthered her education with a Master of Business Administration in finance from Harvard Business School (HBS) in 2006, also serving as chief financial officer of the HBS Student Association and a Juris Doctor at St. Francis School of Law in 2021.
Dr. Swamy's dedication to making a difference extends beyond her professional endeavors into civic engagement and academia. She serves on the board of directors for the HBS Association of Boston and is an assistant board director at Direct Federal Credit Union. She previously served on the board of the Pan-IIT Alumni Association and is currently a member of The Boston Club. She was admitted to the California Bar in 2022 and actively engages in pro bono legal work. Her involvement with the United Nations' EQUALS Global Partnership as a representative and her prior role as chair of the Gender Equitable Investment (GEIT) committee underscores her commitment to establishing gender equality in the technology sector. Furthermore, she has been a consultant advisor to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for multiple initiatives since 1999, through which she is involved in the creation of innovative programs for online learning, climate investment, venture capital funding and IoT innovation.
In recognition of her leadership and influence in technology, entrepreneurship and education, Dr. Swamy was named Woman of the Year by INDIA New England News in 2023 as well as one of the Top 10 Most Influential Women in Technology by Analytics Insight in 2020. She has published over 20 papers in journals and conferences and holds three patents in the area of data, algorithms and intelligence. She attributes much of her storied success to her ability to adapt to changing landscapes while remaining true to her core values.
Happily married and a proud mother of one, Dr. Swamy stays physically and mentally healthy through activities like hiking, spending time in nature, swimming, rock climbing and reading a new book every week.
