Mr. Martin has established a distinguished career spanning over five decades, marked by leadership, innovation and a steadfast commitment to advancing diversity and excellence in the legal profession. For the past 20 years, he has served as partner and now senior counsel at Potter Anderson & Corroon LLP in Wilmington, Delaware. In this capacity, Mr. Martin is responsible for making decisions on resolving disputes and frequently acts as a mediator, helping businesses settle complex matters. His expertise in dispute resolution is widely recognized, and his work continues to shape the landscape of commercial law in Delaware and beyond.

Before his role at Potter Anderson & Corroon LLP, Mr. Martin was the president and chief executive officer of Verizon Delaware Inc. in Wilmington from 1996 to 2005. During his tenure, he guided the company through significant industry changes and played a pivotal role in its regional growth and strategic direction. Previously, Mr. Martin held the position of vice president, general counsel and secretary at Bell Atlantic in Delaware, beginning in 1990, where he oversaw the organization's legal affairs and corporate governance.

Mr. Martin excelled as a judge, arbitrator and mediator for the Superior Court of Delaware from 1982 to 1989, a role that included his most notable achievement: becoming the first person of color appointed to a constitutional court in Delaware. This historic milestone underscored his commitment to breaking barriers and fostering inclusivity within the judiciary. Between 1978 and 1982, Mr. Martin contributed his expertise to the Delaware Public Service Commission, where he played a key role in regulatory oversight and policy development. He also served as a patent attorney at Hercules Inc., a chemical and munitions manufacturing company in Wilmington, from 1974 to 1982. Mr. Martin initially worked in research development at DuPont, applying his scientific background to innovative projects before transitioning into law.

In preparation for his future, Mr. Martin obtained a Bachelor of Science in physics from Case Western Reserve University in 1966 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Rutgers University in 1974. He further enhanced his executive skills through the executive development program at the Wharton School. Mr. Martin was admitted to practice by the Delaware Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware. Additionally, he holds certification in commercial law arbitration from the Delaware State Bar Association.

Mr. Martin maintains active involvement with several industry-related organizations. He is a member of the panel of arbitrators and mediators of the American Arbitration Association, was a member of the preliminary disciplinary committee of the Court on the Judiciary for the State of Delaware, is an inaugural member of the Association of Commercial and Transactional ADR Professionals and is a member of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals. Mr. Martin is also recognized as a fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the College of Commercial Arbitrators.

Beyond law, Mr. Martin's civic engagement has been extensive, holding leading roles with organizations such as the United Way of Delaware, the New Castle County Vo-Tech School District, Wilmington Friends School, Southwest Power Pool Inc., Christiana Care Health System, Winterthur Museum, Nuclear Electric Insurance Ltd., PNC Bank Delaware, SCANA, Delaware Business Roundtable, Delaware Economic and Financial Advisory Council, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity and the Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew and Matthew. Additionally, he has remained deeply committed to mentoring diverse lawyers across Delaware and nationally over the past two decades, creating opportunities for those from disadvantaged or minority backgrounds. He is a former President of the Delaware State Bar Association.

Throughout his career, Mr. Martin has been acknowledged for his contributions to the legal community. In June 2025, he received recognition from the Delaware Bar Association for his 50-year tenure as an attorney in the state. His professional excellence has also been recognized with numerous honors from Best Lawyers in America for more than two decades. Mr. Martin credits his success to the strong parental guidance that fostered accountability and ambition in him from an early age. His enduring dedication to service, mentorship and professional integrity continues to shape his field and community.
