Her dedication is evident in her hands-on approach, which includes conducting complimentary phone consultations, interpreting assessment results for clients, customizing resumes, researching job opportunities, drafting cover letters, preparing clients for interviews and facilitating valuable networking connections. Furthermore, her ability to attract numerous referrals and welcome returning clients years after their initial consultations stands as a testament to the impact and reputation of her work.

In addition to her entrepreneurial achievements, Ms. Lobus has contributed significantly to higher education as a part-time lecturer in the child and family development department at San Diego State University since 2018. In this capacity, she teaches a career development class, sharing her expertise with students and helping them navigate their own career paths.

Prior to founding Compass Career Counseling, Ms. Lobus served as system-wide director of career services at Alliant International University from 2007 to 2015 while concurrently holding the role of interim director of campus services within the same institution in 2012. During her tenure there, she was instrumental in developing comprehensive career support programs for students across multiple campuses.

For the preceding three years, Ms. Lobus worked as workforce development manager at Goodwill Industries of San Diego County. In this role, her leadership and dedication were recognized through several awards for going above and beyond expectations. Her earlier experience includes serving as an access counselor in the Office of Athletics at the University of San Diego from 2002 to 2006 and contributing as a career counselor at both California State University San Marcos and the University of San Diego.

Ms. Lobus's professional journey began as a graduate assistant with Associated Students at the University of San Diego from 2000 to 2002, preceded by a role as human resources coordinator at Telesec, Corestaff Services (now SwipeJobs) from 1998 to 1999. It was during these formative years that she first discovered her passion for helping others achieve their professional aspirations, a passion that ultimately led her to pursue advanced studies in counseling.

Educationally, Ms. Lobus's background has been foundational to her success. She earned a Master of Arts in counseling with a specialization in college counseling and student development from the University of San Diego in 2002, following completion of all available career development coursework. She previously received a Bachelor of Arts in communication studies from the same institution in 1997. Further underscoring her expertise, she holds the national certified counselor credential from the National Board of Certified Counselors Inc.

Ms. Lobus's natural curiosity and enthusiasm for learning — especially regarding new technologies — have been key drivers behind her ongoing success. Today, she remains dedicated to staying current with technological advancements affecting the job market, particularly those related to artificial intelligence, so she can provide informed advice to her clients. She also stays abreast of industry development through her membership with the National Board of Certified Counselors.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Ms. Lobus is civically engaged as a volunteer and offers pro bono career counseling through Just in Time for Foster Youth. She is also a supporter of animal rescue initiatives and has received multiple instances of praise and recognition for exceeding expectations during her service at Goodwill Industries of San Diego County.

Outside of work, Ms. Lobus enjoys caring for her dogs, cooking and snowboarding as hobbies. She is currently authoring a job search handbook titled "I Can Do This: A Guide to Job Searching in a Digitized Job Market," which aims to educate readers about essential steps in modern job searching amid rapid changes in technology and hiring practices. Through this project and ongoing community engagement, she seeks to raise awareness about evolving trends in employment while continuing to offer valuable guidance rooted in compassion and expertise.
