Throughout his career, Dr. Mirza has been at the forefront of emergency response and system transformation in fragile and conflict-affected contexts. From spearheading "Child Health Days" in Somalia—integrated campaigns that expanded health and nutrition coverage—to managing post-conflict health recovery in Lebanon—and reaching children in challenging terrains of Afghanistan for Polio Eradication efforts, he has consistently delivered innovative solutions to reach vulnerable populations. His leadership was instrumental in scaling 24/7 emergency maternal health services in Somalia, achieving a fourfold increase in facility-based deliveries.

Dr. Mirza has also been a central architect of global frameworks. He co-led the development of the WHO's Defeating Meningitis by 2030 Roadmap and advanced the establishment of second-year-of-life immunization platforms, ensuring millions of children gain access to measles second doses and new life-course vaccines. At UNICEF, he has bridged emergency response with system strengthening, leveraging COVID-19 investments to build resilient PHC systems and accelerate universal health coverage.

An active scholar and thought leader, Dr. Mirza has served as guest editor of two special issues of Vaccines and authored nearly 25 peer-reviewed publications across journals such as Lancet Global Health, BMJ Global Health, and eLife. His recent works, including "Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI): A Legacy of 50 Years and the Road Ahead" and "COVID-19 Vaccination Integration in 11 African Countries", have shaped global discourse on immunization futures.

Recognized for his commitment to equity and collaboration, Dr. Mirza is a member of the American Public Health Association, the International Epidemiological Association, and Sigma Xi. He has been honored by the COVAX partnership for his leadership in pandemic response. Beyond his professional role, he has contributed as a volunteer health provider in underserved communities in northern Pakistan, embodying his lifelong commitment to service.

Dr. Mirza holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from Allama Iqbal Medical College; a Master of Science in Epidemiology from Aga Khan University; and postgraduate training in management, health emergencies, and systems strengthening.
