Dr. Streuling was born in Neubrundenburg, Germany, in 1935. In 1945, he, his mother and sister escaped on their bicycles to Westerland/SYLT just ahead of the Russian armies, leaving everything behind. Arriving in the United States at almost age 18 and without a high school diploma, he enlisted in the military and served as an interpreter for his battalion in Germany.
