Mr. Bartley, a semi-retired consultant, most recently served as a production supervisor at The Robinette Company, a role he held since 2023. In this capacity, he was responsible for ensuring and overseeing safety, quality and productivity across the organization's operations. He supervised a shift of employees, coordinated a 12-hour 2-3-2 schedule and assisted with a team of eight-hour employees. Overall, he maintained accountability for between 38 and 42 individuals at any given time, demonstrating his commitment to operational excellence and effective leadership.
From 2017 to 2020, Mr. Bartley served as site manager at Brock Group, a specialty contractor performing work for a large chemical manufacturer in Kingsport. In this pivotal role, he was instrumental in improving safety performance throughout the organization. His most notable achievement during this period was the launch of a program that encouraged employees to take ownership of their personal safety, resulting in measurable enhancements in workplace safety culture and outcomes. This initiative stands out as a testament to his dedication to fostering environments where every individual is empowered to contribute to collective well-being. During the time he served as a site manager, oversaw safety, quality, and training for 800+ employees and was responsible for profit and loss management of $40 million.
Before these roles, Mr. Bartley completed a decade-long tenure as division manager at Brock Group from 2007 to 2017. He also worked as the quality manager, before being promoted to division manager.
Mr. Bartley's early career spans production supervision, operations management and training across manufacturing and industrial sectors. At Quebecor World Inc., he advanced to superintendent, leading up to 125 employees, streamlining workflows and implementing quality measures that reduced errors and costs. He also held supervisory roles at EZ Painter Corporation and GlaxoSmithKline, managing teams with oversight of scheduling, quality, safety and compliance. Earlier, with The United Company, he progressed from safety and training specialist to general manager, directing safety programs, developing training initiatives and managing a manufacturing operation with over 100 employees and a multimillion-dollar budget.
Mr. Bartley's academic background has been integral to his professional accomplishments. He earned a Master of Business Administration from Virginia Tech and also holds a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering from Virginia Tech, conferred in 1989. Additionally, he received an Associate of Science in engineering from Southwest Virginia Community College in 1987, establishing a strong foundation for his future studies and career progression.
Reflecting on his career, Mr. Bartley attributes his success to several key factors, including his extensive experience across various roles within the manufacturing industry, the mentorship he received from three influential figures (James W. McGlothlin, James Tate, and Willard Owens) who taught him how to treat employees with dignity and respect, shaped his leadership style and his steadfast commitment to safety, quality and productivity. These values were instilled in him during his early experiences working in hazardous environments, such as coal mines.
Beyond his professional responsibilities, Mr. Bartley is actively involved in civic-minded organizations. He has served as a board member for Goodwill Industries International since 2012, contributing to initiatives that support workforce development and community empowerment. Additionally, he has been engaged with United Way of Greater Kingsport, further reflecting his dedication to service and community betterment. In his personal life, he enjoys fishing on the lake where he resides and trail riding on his side-by-side.
Looking ahead, Mr. Bartley envisions developing future leaders within an organization by mentoring Team Members for advancement opportunities.
