Mr. Danzy has become recognized for his expertise in public service and nonprofit management, marked by a series of impactful roles and achievements. Since 2022, he has served as grants development manager of the grants division within the department of finance for Fulton County Government. In this capacity, he is responsible for facilitating referrals for grants and guiding applicants through the department's application process. Mr. Danzy's expertise in writing grants has been instrumental in supporting the county's financial initiatives and community programs.
Celebrating 20 years with the Fulton County Government, Mr. Danzy previously held the position of program manager from 2016 to 2022. During his tenure, he oversaw the development and implementation of programs designed to enhance the quality of life for senior residents, ensuring access to essential services and resources. Between 2011 and 2016, Mr. Danzy contributed as program supervisor in the Office of Children and Youth at Fulton County Government. He managed youth-focused initiatives, providing oversight for programs that addressed educational support, mentorship and personal development for children and adolescents throughout the county. Earlier, Mr. Danzy excelled with the Fulton County Government as a client service manager at the Office of Emergency and Transitional Housing from 2007 to 2011 and as an evaluation specialist in the Department of Health and Human Services between 2005 and 2007.
Among Mr. Danzy's most significant accomplishments working for the Fulton County Government was leading a comprehensive reorganization of the office's workflow. He introduced a system that categorized individuals experiencing homelessness based on their circumstances, such as employment status, recent release from incarceration or substance abuse challenges, allowing for tailored services that facilitated more effective transitions into stable housing. The new structure included a structured program with a 12-step component when necessary, as well as targeted training, skills development and vocational support for those facing disabilities or other barriers.
Before his work in Georgia, Mr. Danzy was an associate regional director for the American Friends Service Committee, a Quaker organization that promotes lasting peace with justice, from 2002 to 2005. In this leadership role, he advanced initiatives focused on social justice and community empowerment. Additionally, Mr. Danzy served as the director of housing and support services at AID Gwinnett between 2000 and 2022. He oversaw case management, transportation, supportive services and housing programs for individuals affected by HIV/AIDS. Notably, he wrote and secured a grant for over $1.8 million through the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS program, establishing Gwinnett County's first AIDS housing subsidy. During this same period, Mr. Danzy also worked as a facilitator and contractor with the department of juvenile justice for the Gwinnett County Government. He provided guidance and support to youth involved in the juvenile justice system, equipping them with tools to navigate challenges and make positive choices.
Before relocating to Georgia, Mr. Danzy was appointed to the Governor's Council on AIDS for the state of Missouri from 1994 to 1998. In this advisory capacity, he contributed to policy development and conducted a pivotal study on correctional facilities reporting high morbidity rates among inmates with AIDS. Mr. Danzy's findings revealed systemic prejudices among medical staff, leading to his recommendations and a subsequent change in contractors specializing in inmate care, which in turn resulted in improved health outcomes.
Mr. Danzy's academic background included earning a Bachelor of Science in aeronautical administration from Saint Louis University in Saint Louis, Missouri, in 1993. He further enhanced his professional qualifications by obtaining credentials as a certified assistant housing manager from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in 1997 and as a certified public manager from the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia in 2018.
Mr. Danzy's civic engagement included serving two terms as the president of his homeowners association and acting as grant coordinator for Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity's mentorship initiatives. His involvement extended to mentoring young men through nonprofit organizations focused on grants management and leadership development. Mr. Danzy notably spent two decades as a grief counselor at Camp Magic in Georgia between 2000 and 2020, guiding youth ages 11 to 16 through loss and transition, while later extending support to adults as demand grew.
In light of his dedication and hard work, Mr. Danzy has been recognized through numerous awards. In 1996, he was honored with an Outstanding Service Award from Blacks Assisting Blacks Against AIDS and a Most Outstanding Young Man of America Award. Subsequently, Mr. Danzy received an Outstanding Service Award from AID Gwinnett in 2002, a Foster Parent Award from Georgia Division of Family & Children Services in 2004, and a Certificate of Appreciation from Fulton County in 2025.
Mr. Danzy attributes his success to constant prayer and surrounding himself with like-minded individuals who share his commitment to service and excellence. He also notes that two mentors played a significant role in shaping his career. Mr. Danzy encourages others entering public service or nonprofit sectors to seek out supportive networks that foster collaboration and mutual appreciation, emphasizing that individual determination is strengthened by collective effort.
