LAKEVILLE, MN, September 30, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rebecca Sterner has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Marked by nearly four decades of expertise in publications and circulation, Ms. Sterner has built a successful career in the magazine publishing industry. She is the founder and consultant at Rebecca Sterner Consulting LLC — established in 1987 — where she works exclusively with magazine publishers, focusing on circulation, audience development and special interest publications. Her responsibilities include participating in company strategies and succession planning, addressing organizational issues to improve performance and finding the best ways to engage the audiences of publishing companies. Through her consultancy, she has become recognized for her tailored approach, eschewing one-size-fits-all solutions in favor of listening closely to each client's unique needs.

After establishing her consulting practice, Ms. Sterner held the role of acting president at Utne Reader under LENS Publishing from 1995 to 1996. During this pivotal period, she led the company through a transitional during a year-long sabbatical of founder Eric Utne. Recognizing the need for substantial changes within the organization, she guided Utne Reader with strategic vision and steady leadership for over a year — an experience that stands out as one of her most notable professional achievements.

Earlier in her journey, Ms. Sterner played a key role in the launch of Ladybug Magazine for the Cricket Magazine Group. At that time, the publisher was known primarily for a single respected children's title. The successful introduction of Ladybug transformed the business, expanding its portfolio from one to more than 10 popular publications. Although she is no longer affiliated with the company, she regards this accomplishment as a significant highlight of her professional journey.

Ms. Sterner has demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting nonprofit entities throughout her career, including Catholic publications and progressive political publications such as In These Times. She was appointed as a consultant by the Lila Wallace Foundation for a three-year project that extended beyond its original scope through collaboration with the Council of Literary Magazines and Presses. The foundation's initiative provided funding and support to small literary publishers, helping them develop business plans and key marketing resources — an endeavor she found both enjoyable and meaningful due to its cultural impact.

With a longstanding commitment to advancing the publishing industry, Ms. Sterner served as a board member of the Minnesota Magazine Publishers Association and an appointed consultant for the Lila Wallace Foundation council. Her contributions over the decades have seen her recognized with multiple prestigious accolades, including the Hedley Donovan Award in 2016 and the Greg Carey Leadership Award in 2001.

Much of Ms. Sterner's success stems from her academic background, which includes coursework toward a master's degree in liberal arts at Hamline University in 1997 and a Bachelor of Arts in English and communications from St. Catherine University in 1980. Her educational experiences provided a strong foundation for her analytical skills and communication abilities, both of which have been instrumental in running her consulting business and aiding many others in the publishing realm.

Born in Kingston, Pennsylvania, Ms. Sterner comes from a family of self-employed individuals — a background that influenced her decision to pursue consulting after experiencing both autonomy and organizational change within an established publishing company. Her early exposure to problem solving within dynamic environments inspired her to carve out an independent path where she could help others navigate their challenges.

In addition to her professional pursuits, Ms. Sterner enjoys traveling, photography, singing as part of a local choir and engaging in dog therapy activities. Happily married and a devoted mother of two adult children, she is deeply proud of her family's achievements. Her husband is enjoying retired life after a successful career as a field engineer working on imaging equipment for General Electric. Their daughter serves as a public policy advisor in Washington, D.C., while their son is a personal care attendant and musician.

Determined to further her impact in the coming years, Ms. Sterner remains committed to assisting organizations as they face ongoing challenges within the magazine publishing industry — particularly those related to rising postage costs and evolving market conditions. She continues to find fulfillment in supporting clients through periods of uncertainty and change, reinforcing her legacy as an influential figure dedicated to strengthening nonprofit publications and helping others through everything she does.
