In her role, she is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end payroll process for five distinct entities across North America. She also engages in process documentation and optimization, resolves issues stemming from previous payroll software implementations, enhances company compliance and manages a team of payroll processors. Also passionate about helping others, she mentors her team members to ensure that they excel in their own right while maintaining best practices throughout the organization.
Prior to joining Howden, Ms. Walker was employed as a United States tax payroll manager at EY (formerly known as Ernst & Young) from 2020 to 2024. During her tenure, she managed complex tax matters and contributed to the streamlining of payroll processes across multiple business units. Her proficiency in compliance and process improvement was pivotal in supporting the firm's operations.
From 2018 to 2019, Ms. Walker held the position of payroll manager at Aspen Insurance Group. There, she was responsible for all aspects of payroll administration for the company's United States-based clients and ensured regulatory compliance with federal and state wage laws. She also spent three years as a payroll manager at ORBCOMM, where she played a key role in integrating new technologies to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing and managed 401(k) pension and payroll audits.
Ms. Walker's earlier experience includes her role as a payroll coordinator at Open Society Foundations, where she managed multi-state payrolls and supported the organization's mission by ensuring timely and accurate compensation for employees. Before that, she worked as an administrative assistant to the chief financial officer and vice president of finance at Visiting Nurse Association of South Central Connecticut from 2008 to 2010. During this time, she was encouraged to learn every role within the finance department, which ultimately led her to discover her passion for payroll.
Before venturing onto her vocational path, Ms. Walker laid a strong foundation for her future achievements with a master's degree in public administration with a concentration in health care from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2008, following a bachelor's degree in accounting from the same institution in 2006.
Dedicated to enhancing her knowledge and leadership capabilities, Ms. Walker reached a significant career milestone by obtaining multiple certificates in payroll through the American Payroll Association. After rigorous study and examination, she first achieved the fundamental payroll certification in 2011, followed by the certified payroll professional designation a year later. Additionally, she was certified as a payroll professional by PayrollOrg from 2012 to 2022. Recently, she completed a strategic leadership certificate program and government/public sector certificate program.
To expand her network and stay aware of best payroll practices, Ms. Walker is an active member of the North Jersey and New York Metropolitan Chapters of the American Payroll Association as well as PayrollOrg. She attributes much of her success to mentorship and networking with other women striving for advancement in their fields. Early encouragement from a manager led her to join the American Payroll Association, where she met a mentor with over three decades of experience who continues to provide valuable guidance on her career trajectory.
Looking to the future, Ms. Walker remains focused on transforming end-to-end payroll processes within Howden by making them as robust and compliant as possible while collecting accurate data for compliance needs. Aspiring toward roles such as director of payroll or director of operations — positions that would allow her to collaborate across departments — she seeks opportunities where she can contribute meaningfully within both corporate and government settings.
