MECHANICSTOWN, OH, October 06, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Shannon Alyson Smith has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Smith has established a distinguished career in the fields of social work, therapy and military service, marked by resilience, compassion and a commitment to helping others overcome trauma. As the owner and therapist at Peace Post Trauma since 2022, she has dedicated her practice to supporting individuals through their most challenging experiences. Working remotely, she partners with various billing services, primarily Grow, which manages essential administrative functions such as insurance paneling and advertising. She personally conducts initial diagnostic assessments with clients and develops tailored treatment plans, focusing on trauma recovery and post-traumatic growth. Her expertise encompasses eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder as well as a broad range of personality disorders, including bipolar disorder, anxiety, psychosis and schizophrenia.

In addition to her private practice, Ms. Smith has served in the Army National Guard since 2010. She began her military career as a human intelligence collector from 2010 to 2021 before commissioning as a social work officer in 2021. Achieving the rank of first lieutenant stands as one of her proudest accomplishments, reflecting her dedication and leadership within the armed forces.

Prior to establishing her own practice, Ms. Smith worked as a therapist at Coleman Professional Services from 2019 to 2022, where she provided mental health support to diverse populations. From 2015 to 2018, she contributed her skills in crisis intervention at FrontLine Service, addressing urgent behavioral health needs in high-pressure situations. She also served as a behavioral therapist at Behavior Change Institute from 2014 to 2016, specializing in applied behavioral analysis for children with autism and other behavioral challenges. Additionally, she was involved with Frontline Services Mobile Crisis Team as a referral and information specialist from 2016 to 2018.

Ms. Smith's academic background is both extensive and multidisciplinary. She earned a Master of Science in social science and administration with a concentration in adult mental health from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland in 2019. She also holds an Associate of Arts in Chinese Mandarin linguistics from the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in Monterey, completed in 2013, and an Associate of Science in intelligence operations studies from Cochise College in Sierra Vista, completed in 2011. Her undergraduate studies culminated with a Bachelor of Science in Spanish translation and interpretation from Kent State University in Kent, completed cum laude in 2009.

Her professional credentials include certification as a licensed independent social worker supervisor by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board since 2022; certified clinical trauma specialist by the Trauma Institute International since 2020; and CPR/AED/First Aid certification from the National Safety Council since 2020. Ms. Smith is currently pursuing Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing certification through the EMDR International Association.

Ms. Smith's early professional experiences shaped her path toward mental health care. After working as a resident assistant at an assisted living home—a role that proved physically demanding—she transitioned into applied behavioral analysis for autistic children before moving into crisis intervention around 2015. Her time working with adults during crisis situations led her to discover a passion for individual therapy, where she found fulfillment in building deeper connections with clients.

Beyond her professional roles, Ms. Smith is deeply engaged in civic activities and volunteerism. Since 2020, she has provided pro bono therapy services through Mental Health America. She has also volunteered as an advocate and child and youth worker for Caring for Kids Inc-Adoption/Foster Care Agency since 2019 and supports St. Joseph Orphanage as a donor while participating with Frontline Ministries.

Ms. Smith has received several awards throughout her career in health care, including numerous physical training accolades. Her military service was also recognized with several honors, including Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year for Headquarters 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in 2016 and Honor Soldier distinction in 2012.

Throughout her journey, Ms. Smith has drawn strength from her loving mother's encouragement and her steadfast faith in God—qualities that have helped her persevere through significant personal challenges, including recovering from a stroke that required a craniectomy procedure several years ago. Despite ongoing health issues that kept her away from work for over a year and a half, she remained committed to her mission of supporting others through adversity.

Outside of her professional commitments, Ms. Smith appreciates spending time with her significant other and their beloved pets: a dog, cat, two rats and a ball python. She also enjoys reading, watching movies and sharing moments with friends and family. Looking ahead, she is focused on completing her EMDR certification and anticipates retiring from the Army National Guard while continuing to make meaningful contributions through initiatives such as St. Joseph Orphanage. She remains dedicated to expanding her volunteer efforts and deepening her impact on those she serves.
