LOUISVILLE, KY, October 08, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present John Wesley "Wes" Humphries with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Humphries celebrates many years' experience in his professional network and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Humphries has distinguished himself through a dedicated career in music education, most notably as a music teacher with Jefferson County Public Schools from 1985 to 2012. Over more than 25 years, he taught students from kindergarten through fifth grade, imparting the fundamentals of music through instruction in singing, small and handheld instruments and a regimented curriculum. Mr. Humphries's expertise in elementary general music, piano and keyboard was evident in his daily teaching, where he led six to eight classes each day. He is particularly proud of his efforts to plan and coordinate multicultural music programs for his students, ensuring that they experienced music from around the world.
In addition to his tenure as an educator, Mr. Humphries served as choir director and organist at Hurstbourne Christian Church from 1984 to 2018. For over three decades, he contributed to the church's musical life, leading choirs and providing organ accompaniment for services and special events. Mr. Humphries's commitment extended beyond performance by prioritizing efforts to create an enjoyable environment for choir members, believing that fun was integral to both learning and participation.
Following high school, Mr. Humphries earned a bachelor's degree in music education from Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, and a master's degree in church music from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
Mr. Humphries's professional journey is further distinguished by his active involvement in several industry-related organizations. He is a member of the National Educators Association's retirement division and has been affiliated with the Kentucky Education Association, the Local County Retired Teachers' Association and the Music Educators National Conference. As a member of his local community, Mr. Humphries served on the board of directors for his homeowners' association.
Mr. Humphries attributes much of his professional ethic to the values instilled in him by his parents, who emphasized the importance of hard work and integrity. His lifelong involvement with church music began in South Carolina during childhood and continued through high school, where lessons in piano and organ inspired him to pursue music as a vocation with a particular focus on the organ. Meanwhile, Mr. Humphries's early experiences assisting with camp and Vacation Bible School as a teenager provided him with valuable insight into working with young children. He credits his ability to relate well to children as a key factor in his success as an educator.
Looking ahead, Mr. Humphries hopes that his legacy will be defined by his passion for music, education and service to the church. He aspires to be remembered for infusing enjoyment into every aspect of his work, whether teaching children or directing choirs, and encourages future educators to adopt this approach for fostering engagement and learning among their students.
