COLORADO SPRINGS, CO, October 09, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jon Mitchell has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Mitchell currently serves as lead editor and content manager at The Colorado Springs Gazette LLC, a position he has held since March of 2021. In this capacity, he helps oversee editorial direction and content strategy, drawing on his extensive experience in journalism and media management. His leadership at the Gazette reflects a career marked by adaptability and resilience in an ever-evolving industry.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Mitchell worked as a page designer and photographer for The News-Review in Roseburg, OR, from 2018 to 2020. During this period, he was responsible for the visual presentation of news content, helped with editorial decision making and contributed original photography, enhancing the publication's storytelling capabilities.

From 2015 to 2018, Mr. Mitchell was a sports reporter at The Daily Sentinel in Grand Junction, CO. His reporting covered a wide range of college and high school athletic events and stories, further establishing his reputation for thoroughness and dedication to factual reporting. Notably during his tenure, he navigated significant industry challenges, including staff reductions due to economic pressures. Despite watching multiple staff reductions happen in the newsroom through layoffs or attrition, he helped maintain the quality and continuity of the sports section. He said this period stands out as one of his most significant professional achievements, demonstrating his commitment to both his craft and his colleagues.

Between 2013 and 2015, Mr. Mitchell served as the sports editor at the Glenwood Springs Post Independent in Glenwood Springs, CO. In this role, he managed the sports department, covered area high school and recreational events, coordinated coverage and mentored junior reporters.

From 2009 to 2013, Mr. Mitchell worked as a route sales representative for Alsco in Rifle, CO. While outside traditional journalism, this role provided him with valuable insights into customer service and business operations. From 2008 to 2009, he served as the assistant sports editor at The Greeley Tribune in Greeley, CO. Here, he contributed to editorial planning and coverage of local sports events, but a layoff due to financial troubles at the paper led to his role at Alsco.

His earlier career includes working as a sports reporter for The News-Review in Roseburg from 2002 to 2008. Mr. Mitchell also held roles as a sports reporter (1999-2001) and classified sales representative (2001-2002) at the Glenwood Springs Post Independent.

Mr. Mitchell's academic foundation is rooted in a Bachelor of Arts in mass communications from Colorado Mesa University (formerly Mesa State College), which he completed in 2000. This education provided him with essential skills in media ethics, writing and communication that have underpinned his career accomplishments. Among his professional recognitions is a second-place award for Best Sports Story from the Colorado Press Association in 2014 and a first-place award in 2005 for Best Sports Story in the Society of Professional Journalists Region X competition, reflecting his skill as a storyteller and journalist.

He attributes much of his success to his stubbornness and tenacity — a relentless work ethic instilled by his father — which has enabled him to persevere through industry volatility and personal setbacks such as layoffs during the 2008 recession. Even while working as a truck driver during that challenging period, Mr. Mitchell continued freelance sports writing for local newspapers in Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction. This commitment allowed him to remain active in journalism until he secured a full-time position following the departure of a sports editor in Glenwood Springs.

Outside of his professional life, Mr. Mitchell enjoys photography and spending time with his family. Looking ahead, he aims to make a meaningful difference in people's lives through his work and hopes those he has helped will continue that legacy by making positive impacts themselves. He remains committed to helping others understand journalism as an industry centered on truth-telling.
