ROTTERDAM, NY, October 17, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nicholas S. Follett has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Currently serving as the junior high and high school vocal director at Middleburgh Central School, Mr. Follett has established an impactful career in music education. Dedicated to expanding participation and fostering musical growth among his students, he leads a junior high choir for seventh and eighth graders, a high school choir for ninth through 12th graders and a general music class for eighth-grade students. His classes are characterized by a diverse mix of students, some of whom are new to choral singing while others have participated since elementary school. The junior high choir typically enrolls between 30 and 35 students, while the high school choir maintains nearly 20 members.

In addition to his classroom responsibilities, Mr. Follett directs "Music of the Knight," an extracurricular select choir that meets after school on Thursdays. Comprising of 10 auditioned students, this ensemble specializes in a cappella arrangements within the vocal jazz and pop genres. He also organizes performances for school events such as Homecoming, Miracle on Main St. and an Elementary Winter holiday sing-along. Notably, he secured a fully funded upcoming field trip for his students to attend the national tour of "Wicked," underscoring his commitment to providing them with enriching experiences.

Prior to joining Middleburgh Central School, Mr. Follett was the band director at Ticonderoga Central School from 2017 to 2025. There, he taught band to students in grades four through eight and led seventh and eighth grade band as well as choir and general music classes. During this time, he also played an pivotal role in organizing county music festivals — with his students selected to perform based on their solo festival scores — and was recognized by the Chamber of Commerce of Ticonderoga for providing music during holiday downtown caroling.

From 2016 to 2017, Mr. Follett served as an elementary music teacher at Sherburne-Earlville Central Schools, where he introduced young learners to foundational concepts in music education. Before he focused specifically on music education, he began his career with substitute teaching roles at Vestal Central School District from 2015 to 2016 and Norwich City School District from 2012 to 2016.

To expand his network and stay aware of best educational practices, Mr. Follett has been actively involved in professional organizations such as the New York State School Music Association and the National Association for Music Educators. He has also contributed to the Essex County Music Teacher's Association by helping to organize festivals and remains committed to continuous professional development as a teacher.

Hailing from an academic background that has significantly shaped his career path, Mr. Follett earned a Master of Music in music performance with a concentration in saxophone and voice lessons from Binghamton University, completed in 2017. Five years earlier, he earned a Bachelor of Music in music teacher education from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania (now Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania). To augment his knowledge and qualifications, he holds a Professional Teacher certification in New York State music education from the New York State Education Department.

Mr. Follett's passion for music was cultivated during his upbringing in Norwich, New York, where he was influenced by a family deeply rooted in education; his mother was a successful teacher while several additional relatives have held positions ranging from physical education instructor to principal and dean throughout New York City and beyond. His musical talents are further demonstrated by his participation in five community theater productions as an actor, singer and dancer, as well as regular performances with instrumental ensembles in the Capital Region of NY state.

Beyond the classroom, Mr. Follett extends his dedication into civic engagement and creative pursuits. At Middleburgh Central School, he serves as an adviser for the Gay-Straight Alliance, fostering a safe and inclusive environment for all students. Also taking part in live gigs throughout Schenectady and surrounding communities, he gives additional performances on the flute, clarinet and saxophone. Furthermore, he has joined community bands, Dixieland bands and performed with ensembles such as the Adirondack Jazz Orchestra as a substitute musician.

A memorable highlight of Mr. Follett's musical journey was performing at the London Olympics with his college marching band and wind ensemble in 2012. Bringing his story full circle, he returned to Binghamton University in 2017 to perform professionally with the Binghamton Pop Symphony alongside both of his saxophone professors.

Reflecting on his journey thus far, Mr. Follett attributes his success to perseverance, consistently learning from personal experiences and building meaningful connections with others — qualities that have shaped both his professional journey and impact on future generations of musicians and educators. Using music as a connecting force, he takes great joy in bringing people together and fostering teamwork to create something special.

Looking toward the future, Mr. Follett aims to continue serving at Middleburgh Central School by providing opportunities for students to develop as artists and musicians while sharing their talents with the broader community. He aims to show that educators can remain active performers throughout their careers and inspire students to pursue diverse opportunities that contribute to their growth as well-rounded adults. Also hoping to deepen his knowledge and creativity, he envisions pursuing further academic achievement through doctoral studies in either music or education and is considering obtaining national board certification in vocal or general music education.
