SgtMaj Minter has dedicated over two decades to the United States Marine Corps, where he currently serves as a battalion senior enlisted leader. As a battalion sergeant major, SgtMaj Minter would often addresses groups of 800 to over 1,000 servicemembers. Meanwhile, when in the academy setting, he had constant interaction with up to 120 Gunnery Sergeants who represent various commands. The academy also hosts U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy and foreign military students from other countries across Europe and Asia. This opportunity allowed him to impact the military across all branches and partner nations. SgtMaj Minter finds this experience both fulfilling and meaningful especially when receiving positive feedback from his students. He is also responsible for certifying other Marines who wish to teach classes once they have fulfilled all necessary requirements.
SgtMaj Minter began his military journey immediately after high school when he enlisted in the Marine Corps, initially working as an aviation mechanic specializing in metal work, fiberglass and hydraulics. He later worked on the CH-53 helicopter, advancing to become a collateral duty inspector and ultimately attaining the position of Quality Assurance Chief, which is the highest position achievable in the quality assurance division. His career evolved through various roles, including academy faculty advisor, maintenance control, embassy security guard and martial arts instructor. His diverse experience encompasses 12 different military occupational specialties.
SgtMaj Minter's international assignments have been significant milestones in his career having served on five of seven continents. During his time in the Netherlands in 2012, he was involved in enhancing security at the embassies and consulates worldwide following the Benghazi incident. He led a detachment to Shenyang, China, establishing a new detachment and beginning security operations in record time. He received the Meritorious Honor Award from the State Department and the Navy Commendation Medal from the Marine Corps for his exceptional efforts.
SgtMaj Minter's academic pursuits have been instrumental in shaping his career trajectory. He completed coursework in criminal justice, psychology and environmental science with a focus on sustainable energy. In 2016, he earned an associate degree in general studies from the American Military University and continues to pursue education today. These educational achievements have equipped him with a broad understanding of various fields, aiding his transition into roles such as hazardous material coordinator, embassy security and career counseling.
Beyond his military service, SgtMaj Minter is actively involved in civic organizations. He volunteers his time with Habitat for Humanity and the Pasadena Humane Society. Additionally, he plays a key role in community outreach thorough the Toys for Tots program. His dedication is complemented by numerous awards recognizing his outstanding achievements, including a Meritorious Service Medal for his work as a battalion sergeant major in Okinawa, Combat Air Crew Wings, three Air Medals, a Joint Service Achievement Medal, three Navy Commendation Medals, and multiple other campaign decorations and commendations for humanitarian efforts.
SgtMaj Minter is grateful for the support of his family, friends and fellow service members. When the military relocates him to a new location, he always engages people from previous and current duty stations, which makes the transition easier. The friends and family he has met have played a crucial role in helping him succeed in his various positions around the world. He enjoys talking to others, especially those who have transitioned out of the military, as hearing about their careers and successes has opened his eyes to the different opportunities available to him.
In his personal life, SgtMaj Minter enjoys many activities that reflect his adventurous spirit and love for exploration. He is an avid scuba diver, golfer, and fitness enthusiasts who has participated in multiple Spartan events and races on five continents, including a half marathon on the Great Wall of China. Wherever he is stationed, he immerses himself in local culture by exploring restaurants, attractions and engaging with the local population.
As he approaches retirement from the military, SgtMaj Minter is considering opportunities in aviation, sustainable energy and private security abroad while also contemplating roles that align with his passion for construction and hands-on work such as home building and renovations. He envisions an honorable retirement filled with meaningful pursuits that leverage his extensive experience in career counseling and mentorship. He remains open to exploring new opportunities that allow him to continue making a positive impact both within and outside of uniformed service.
