As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With a storied career as a photojournalist, Mr. Martin has established himself as a leader at the intersection of public service, technology and visual storytelling. As a public arts commissioner for the City of Alameda since 2024, he advises the city council on policy and procedural development related to public art. In this capacity, Mr. Martin reviews and vets proposals for installations, determines locations and scope for projects across the city, and evaluates applications for both physical art, such as sculptures, and cultural performances, including dance and music, determining the quantity, budget and placement of city-funded art. Mr. Martin's efforts integrate public art with city infrastructure, such as parks and bike paths, promote placemaking by coordinating art with transportation and urban planning, and ensure that city funds are used effectively to enhance community spaces.

In addition to his role in Alameda, Mr. Martin has served as a consultant in artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies at Hamilton-Blackwell since 2023. In this position, he provides strategic guidance on the adoption and ethical implementation of advanced technologies, drawing on his expertise in creative direction and visual design thinking. Mr. Martin's ability to translate complex technical concepts into accessible narratives has made him a sought-after advisor in the rapidly evolving field of AI.

Beyond these responsibilities, Mr. Martin has contributed as an expert judge for Photocrowd since 2018, where he evaluates documentary photography submissions from around the world. His discerning eye for impactful storytelling has helped elevate standards within the photographic community.

From 2024 to 2025, Mr. Martin held the position of senior managing editor for photography at Ziff Davis. There, he led editorial teams in producing compelling visual content that explored the societal impact of technology. Previously, he was employed by Red Ventures, first as a senior photographer and then as a managing editor for photography, from 2019 to 2024. Earlier, Mr. Martin worked as a senior photographer at ViacomCBS and at CBS Interactive, after initially working as a photographer at CNET between 2008 and 2013.

Mr. Martin's academic background includes a bachelor's degree in English literature and political science from the University of Colorado in Boulder. He has continued his professional development through certifications, including early academy accreditation in generative AI from Databricks and IBM.

Active in his professional community, Mr. Martin is a member of the American Society of Magazine Editors, where he has also been serving as a judge for its awards program since 2024. Additionally, he is an active member of the National Press Photographers Association.

Throughout his career, Mr. Martin has consistently demonstrated expertise in creative direction, visual design thinking and storytelling, qualities that have earned him recognition among peers and industry leaders. Among his most notable achievements are international reporting projects that focus on real-world applications of technology. Mr. Martin documented robotic cleanup efforts at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant and explored methods for clearing minefields in southern Angola. These experiences revealed that while technology is vital, low-tech solutions and human effort remain essential components of progress.

For more than 25 years in San Francisco, Mr. Martin has worked at the forefront of technological innovation, visiting major companies such as Google, Facebook, Amazon and Apple to provide behind-the-scenes stories that illuminate how technology works, its future trajectory and its impact on people's lives.

Mr. Martin's work has been recognized with numerous accolades, including multiple Silver Awards in journalism, a Gold Award in Architecture for "Steve Jobs Theater," both from Graphis Photography Awards, a Silver Award for an editorial/photo essay for "Inside Fukushima Daiichi" from the Tokyo International Foto Awards, and, among others, several Honorable Mentions from Communication Arts Photography Awards.

Attributing his success to a combination of luck, chance and support from key individuals, Mr. Martin also notes his adaptability in building strong relationships during international assignments, which were often marked by unpredictability or stress. His flexible approach and critical thinking have been central to achieving successful outcomes across challenging environments.
