Ms. Cortes has established a distinguished career in health care, currently serving as the business development director at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Newnan since 2022. In this capacity, she manages a clinical sales team dedicated to educating the community — including physicians, nurses, case managers, and social workers — about the importance of inpatient rehabilitation. Her leadership ensures that health care professionals are well informed about the benefits of inpatient rehab and can identify patients who require this level of care to recover from life changing illness or injury. The team conducts thorough assessments with potential patients to determine their eligibility for the program and facilitates their admission into the hospital for necessary services.

Prior to her current role, Ms. Cortes worked in the home health division for Encompass Health from 2020 to 2022. She initially served as a selling division manager, managing a sales team as well as her own book of business, but was promoted to division manager. As division manager, Ms. Cortes was responsible for coaching the sales team in strategy, outreach, and education to achieve the admissions goals established for each branch within the division. A second promotion transitioned her focus to the community care program, during which time she oversaw outreach initiatives and fostered relationships with key stakeholders within the independent and assisted living communities.

Between 2017 and 2020, Ms. Cortes was the director of business development at Roosevelt Warm Springs Rehabilitation & Specialty Hospitals, driving growth through strategic partnerships and innovative marketing strategies. In this role she developed a deep understanding of nonprofit healthcare operations and the balance between clinical excellence and community benefit. Ms. Cortes used that understanding to grow the organization while staying aligned with patient and community needs.

Her earlier experiences include serving as the business development and marketing coordinator for Chattahoochee Hospice, Inc during which time she developed targeted outreach campaigns and strengthened community engagement; Senior rehab liaison for Healthsouth where she worked closely with hospital administration and regional support team to remove barriers and provide resources necessary for the sales team to achieve performance goals. She began her career in post-acute care business development as a clinical liaison at Southern Kentucky Rehabilitation Hospital for Vibra Healthcare in 2014. During her time there, she took on the additional responsibility of interim clinical admissions manager. At Vibra Healthcare, she was recognized with several awards, including Rookie Clinical Liaison of the Quarter, Suggested Best Practice, first place in the REACH Team Sales Competition and REACH Clinical Liaison MVP.

Enabling Ms. Cortes to excel in both clinical and administrative roles was her academic background, inclusive of an Associate of Science in registered nursing from SUNY Broome Community College, earned in 2005. She holds certification as a registered nurse from the Alabama Board of Nursing.

Throughout her career, Ms. Cortes has been acknowledged for her commitment to excellence and innovation. She was interviewed in a feature by Thrive for the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce, highlighting her impact on the field. Among her professional affiliations are memberships with the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses and the Georgia Stroke Professional Alliance.

Inspired by the compassionate care she received as a child, Ms. Cortes always wanted to pursue a career in nursing. She worked as a hospital volunteer in high school, accumulating approximately 100 hours of service. As high school concluded, she became a certified nursing assistant through Health Occupation Students of America HOSA and earned a full scholarship to nursing school for her outstanding bedside skills.

Reflecting on her career, Ms. Cortes is particularly proud of her contributions to team development within her organizations. She sets ambitious goals and thrives under pressure, viewing challenges as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles. She is particularly passionate about advocating for patients navigating Medicare Advantage programs, working tirelessly to ensure they receive all entitled benefits.

Beyond her professional commitments, Ms. Cortes has been civically engaged since 2013, crocheting hats for cancer patients. Looking ahead, she aspires to continue growing within Encompass Health with hopes of advancing into a regional leadership position while maintaining her commitment to patient advocacy and team development within the field of rehabilitation health care.
