From 1979 to 1982, Mr. Sotorrio initially served as head of juvenile court at the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender in Hudson County, Jersey City. Throughout his career, Mr. Sotorrio has achieved numerous accolades and milestones. He was awarded first prize for the best paper by the Inter-American Bar Association in 1992. In this role, he contributed to reforming the Guatemalan penal code and training prosecutors on human rights cases. Mr. Sotorrio's casework includes high-profile matters across Latin America and Europe, notably handling complex white-collar crime investigations originating from Spain and securing favorable outcomes in numerous murder trials. Among his most significant achievements is obtaining a dismissal in the Octopus Conspiracy case involving a politically charged triple murder in California.
His academic background includes earning a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center in 1977 and a Bachelor of Science in political science from Northwestern University, where he Graduated with Distinction. These academic achievements provided him with a strong foundation for his legal practice and have been instrumental in his professional success. Mr. Sotorrio founded the Eugene Spellman Inn of Court at the University of Miami and served as its first president for two terms.
