Prior to his current role, from 2020 to 2024, Mr. Nickles was the Managing Director for the financial services industry within Capital Markets at Microsoft. He was responsible for driving customer engagement strategies and ensuring the delivery of transformative solutions to clients in the financial sector. His focus on fostering strong customer relationships and improving business processes contributed to the company's reputation for excellence in service delivery.

In 2020, Mr. Nickles held the position of Director of Customer Success, where he led initiatives to optimize client outcomes and support the adoption of innovative technologies. Prior to this, from 2018 to 2020, he was the Director of Delivery Services, managing large-scale projects and ensuring the seamless execution of service delivery plans.

As Delivery Manager for the financial services industry from 2017 to 2018, Mr. Nickles played a pivotal role in aligning Microsoft's offerings with the unique needs of financial clients. Between 2015 and 2017, he served as Senior Delivery Manager, where he was instrumental in crisis management and the implementation of customer analytics to enhance service quality.

Earlier, Mr. Nickles worked as a Technical Account Manager from 2011 to 2015, providing strategic guidance and technical support to Fortune 100 enterprise clients. Prior to this, he served as a Global Program Manager from 2006 to 2011, leading international teams and managing cross-regional projects in markets such as Japan and Latin America, following his post as a program manager from 2005 to 2006.

Between 2003 and 2005, Mr. Nickles was a CPE Analysis Manager, developing tools such as a relationship health index to help sales teams measure and prioritize customer relationships. He began his full-time career at Microsoft in enterprise sales and support from 2000 to 2003 after initially joining the company as a vendor during the launches of Office and Windows in 1999.

Mr. Nickles' academic background includes coursework in graduate studies in economics and finance at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and a bachelor's degree in economics from Eastern Illinois University, which he completed in 1999. Although he initially pursued legal studies, his experience as a legal assistant revealed his interests lay elsewhere, prompting a shift in his professional focus.

Throughout his career, Mr. Nickles has earned a range of professional certifications that have strengthened both his leadership and technical expertise. These include the Pathfinders 2024 Career Advisory Board Leaders Certification from Microsoft in 2024, Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals in 2022 and Microsoft 365 Certified: Fundamentals in 2021. He also became certified in Accessibility in Action from Microsoft in 2019 and Microsoft Operations Framework (MOF) 4.0, in addition to attaining Six Sigma Black Belt and Green Belt certifications.

Mr. Nickles attributes his success to a supportive network of colleagues and mentors, as well as a personal philosophy inspired by Friedrich Nietzsche's assertion that "He who has a why to live can bear almost any how." This belief has guided his focus on family and resilience throughout his life. Born in Belleville to a teenage single mother, he overcame adversity with the support of coaches and mentors who played pivotal roles during his formative years. Mr. Nickles worked various jobs, including exterminator, window washer, technical operations manager and gas station attendant, to support himself through school, determined to break the cycle of instability that marked his early life.

A key influence in Mr. Nickles' professional journey was a General Manager in the St. Louis sales office who recognized the value of his background in economics and finance, encouraging him to join Microsoft full-time after an initial vendor role. He often reflects on his progression through nearly 15 levels within the company, from entry-level positions to General Manager.

Mr. Nickles' commitment to service extends beyond his corporate responsibilities. He has been actively involved with organizations such as Feed My Starving Children and has supported Catholic schools through donations. Additionally, he served on the Microsoft U.S. advisory board for managers from 2021 to 2024,the Microsoft U.S. culture council from 2022 to 2023 and is an alumnus of the career advisory board for the Microsoft technical community since 2022.

In addition to his professional contributions, Mr. Nickles has devoted considerable time to youth sports and community engagement. From 2017 to 2022, he coached basketball at Frassati Catholic Academy, and he served on the school's Athletic Board from 2017 to 2018. Between 2014 and 2024, he guided travel baseball teams at LYAA, Illinois Lightning and Lake County Stars.

Mr. Nickles is also an accomplished poet. He has been writing poetry since age 14, inspired by his grandfather, a songwriter and poet whose work was lost due to Alzheimer's disease. This personal loss motivated Mr. Nickles to publish his own poetry collection, "Our Thoughts Chilled," released by Bookleaf Publishing in 2025. The collection spans three decades of his life and was recognized with the Emily Dickinson Award in 2025. The book reached the top 100 on Amazon poetry for a short period and is available at major retailers such as Walmart and Barnes and Noble. Mr. Nickles' poetry serves as both personal therapy and a legacy for his children.

A testament to his professional excellence, Mr. Nickles has received several prestigious awards throughout his career. These include Microsoft's Gold Club Manager of the Year in 2021, the Hero Award in 2020, and CPE Champion at MSNA/Microsoft in 2015. He also earned the MVP Award at Americas Premier Services/Microsoft in 2014 and the Gold Star award in 2010.
