Mr. Taylor's distinguished career in automotive design and sculpting is marked by a series of influential roles across leading companies in the industry. Since 2023, he has served as the lead design sculptor at Slate, a startup where he oversees the modeling area and plays a pivotal role in developing innovative vehicle features. At Slate, Bob has demonstrated his ability to adapt to evolving industry demands, drawing on his extensive background to help shape the company's future and its products. He is particularly focused on ensuring that traditional design sculpting skills remain relevant alongside new technological advancements.

From 2018 to 2020, Mr. Taylor held the position of senior design sculptor at Mercedes-AMG GmbH. His work at Mercedes-AMG GmbH further solidified his reputation for precision and creativity within the luxury automotive sector.
Between 2009 and 2018, Mr. Taylor was a senior automotive design sculptor at Daimler AG. In this capacity, he was responsible for translating conceptual sketches into full-scale models, collaborating closely with engineering and design teams to bring innovative concepts to fruition. His contributions during this period were instrumental in advancing Daimler AG's design language and product offerings to offer the SLS & GT.
Before moving to Daimler, Mr. Taylor's earlier experience included his role as a senior design sculptor at Volkswagen/Audi of America from 2002 to 2009. Here, he played a crucial part in navigating labor challenges and helping designers bring their ideas to fruition.

After the Volkswagen acquisition of Bugatti in the mid 90's, the chairman of the group Ferdinand Piëch wanted to produce the fastest, most expensive car to date. The chance to design such an iconic vehicle went to a very talented young designer Jozef Kaban. Along with Mr. Taylor, leading the modelling team, the Bugatti Veryon was born.
Mr. Taylor's educational background has been integral to his professional achievements. He completed City & Guilds Patternmaking & Foundry Practice Parts 1 & 2 at Warley College of Technology. This formal training provided him with essential skills in pattern making and model creation, abilities that have underpinned his success throughout his career.
Reflecting on his success, Mr. Taylor's early hands-on experiences, including assisting with home renovations during his upbringing, fostered a natural aptitude for working with his hands and translating two-dimensional designs into three-dimensional forms. His entry into the profession was shaped by an apprenticeship in pattern making, followed by roles in model making for the foundry industry. These formative experiences enabled Mr. Taylor to refine his sculpting abilities before transitioning into automotive design roles with major companies such as Volvo, Land Rover, Mazda, Saab, GM, Seat, to name a few.
Throughout his career, Mr. Taylor has been recognized for his resilience, adaptability and leadership within the automotive field. He successfully navigated industry challenges, such as economic downturns, while maintaining strong connections with Germany after relocating to California. Looking ahead, Mr. Taylor remains committed to advancing both his career and the success of Slate by contributing to innovative vehicle features that allow families greater customization options over time. He aims to demonstrate the enduring value of hands-on craftsmanship within automotive design while embracing new technologies that drive industry progress.
