GREENVILLE, NC, November 05, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Syed Anees Ahmed, MPharm, PhD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Ahmed has distinguished himself as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University, since 2022. In this role, he investigates alcohol-evoked cardiotoxicity using preclinical models to elucidate sex-specific differences in cardiac dysfunction and the role of estrogen signaling, oxidative stress, and circadian disruption. Dr. Ahmed's expertise spans pharmaceutical sciences, cardiovascular and metabolic disorders, redox and circadian mechanisms, and ethnopharmacology. Dr. Ahmed's research has been instrumental in advancing this line of investigation and has earned him recognition as an emerging expert in these fields.

Recently, Dr. Ahmed was named the Highlighted Trainee Author (November 2025) by the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET), recognizing his excellence in pharmacological research and scientific impact.

Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Ahmed served as Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Pharmacology at the Palamau Institute of Pharmacy (Jharkhand, India) from 2021 to 2022. During his tenure, he contributed to the academic training of pharmacy students, supervised research activities, and advanced his work in experimental pharmacology.

From 2018 to 2021, Dr. Ahmed was a PhD scholar at the CSIR–Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow, India. His doctoral research laid the foundation for his subsequent work in cardiometabolic and ethnopharmacological research. Before that, he served as a Senior Research Fellow at King George's Medical University (2017–2018), where he gained valuable experience in both clinical and laboratory-based research. His early career included roles as a Project Fellow (2014–2016) and Project Trainee (2013–2014) at the Central Drug Research Institute, where he developed a strong foundation in pharmaceutical research and experimental therapeutics.

Throughout his career, Dr. Ahmed has been an active member of several prominent professional organizations, including the American Heart Association (AHA), American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET), International Society for Heart Research (ISHR), American Society for Nutrition (ASN), American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT), American Physiological Society (APS), American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), British Pharmacological Society (BPS), and the National Postdoctoral Association (NPA). His involvement in these societies underscores his commitment to continued professional development, multidisciplinary collaboration, and dissemination of scientific knowledge.

Dr. Ahmed's academic achievements have played a crucial role in his professional success. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy (Sciences) with specialization in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Drug Discovery & Development, and Pharmacology & Molecular Biology from CSIR–Central Drug Research Institute/Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) in 2021. He completed his Master of Pharmacy (Pharmacology) at Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow, in 2014, and his Bachelor of Pharmacy at the same university in 2012. His doctoral research was supported by a Senior Research Fellowship from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), where he served as the Principal Investigator, and he was also awarded the Young Scientist Fellowship from the Uttar Pradesh Council of Science and Technology (UPCST), India. These achievements provided a strong foundation for his research career.

In addition to his academic credentials, Dr. Ahmed holds certifications in adult and pediatric first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillator (AED) use from the American Red Cross, underscoring his commitment to safety and preparedness in both research and clinical settings.

Dr. Ahmed's inspiration to pursue pharmacy was deeply influenced by his father, a Unani pharmacist known for his expertise in traditional herbal medicines. His father introduced him to Materia medica, Tibb-e-Nabawi, and various medicinal plants with therapeutic value for chronic diseases. This early exposure sparked Dr. Ahmed's lifelong passion for pharmacological research, leading him to explore medicinal plants and later expand his research interests into broader areas of the pharmaceutical and cardiovascular sciences.

Dr. Ahmed's dedication to research and academic excellence has been recognized internationally. He was recently included in the Stanford University–Elsevier list of the World's Top 2% Scientists, acknowledging his sustained scientific impact and global citation influence. In 2024, his work on alcohol–estrogen–circadian mechanisms in cardiovascular dysfunction was featured by the American Heart Association as a news release at the BCVS Conference in Chicago, gaining national media coverage. This recognition marked a major milestone in his career.

Beyond his research and academic pursuits, Dr. Ahmed has demonstrated outstanding leadership as President of the East Carolina University Postdoctoral Association (2024-present), where he advocates for postdoctoral career development and institutional engagement. He has also served as Vice President (2023–2024) and International Liaison (2022–2023), reflecting his consistent dedication to the professional advancement of his peers.

Born in Lucknow, India, Dr. Ahmed remains committed to advancing his career in biomedical research and education. His future goals include securing extramural funding from organizations such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the American Heart Association (AHA), leading independent research in cardiovascular pharmacology, and ultimately attaining a faculty position in the United States. Through these efforts, Dr. Ahmed aspires to make significant contributions to his field, mentor the next generation of scientists, and bridge traditional knowledge with modern therapeutic discovery.
