GERMANTOWN, MD, November 10, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Richard G. Linowes, founding professor and president of Clarewood University, was selected by Marquis Who's Who for a prominent feature in the October 2025 Washington, DC, regional issue of TIME magazine.
After initially building expertise in the business world, Dr. Linowes has devoted the last 40 years to sharing his insights as an educator. Since 2016, he has served as a founding professor at Clarewood University, where he later accepted the position of president. In addition to this role, Dr. Linowes has contributed as an educator for the Foreign Service Institute at the United States Department of State since 2003. Across all of his responsibilities, he utilizes real-world business experience to shape the classroom.
Dr. Linowes' extensive history as a teacher includes time as a visiting professor at Tel Aviv University and Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto, Japan, an adjunct professor at New York University, and a research assistant at Harvard Business School. He also dedicated more than 30 years to his tenure as an outstanding professor in the undergraduate programs at American University's Kogod School of Business.
Prior to focusing on the academic world, Dr. Linowes built a strong foundation for his knowledge by working for several major companies. Most notably, he was involved with consultant services at Goldman Sachs and assisted as a senior systems analyst at Arthur Andersen & Co. His career began in 1974 as an affiliate for Matsushita Electric Industrial Company (now Panasonic).
Among the many creative works adding to his career highlights, Dr. Linowes offered guidance as an editor, reviewer and contributing author for "Emerging Trends in Japanese Business," "Catching Up with the Computer Revolution," and five volumes of "Portraits of Small Business from the Developing World Management Casebooks." He was featured on "Writing Across the Curriculum" on PBS and hosted the "Getting Down to Business" radio show on Voice of America for several years.
Beyond his career, Dr. Linowes is a loving father to four children and caretaker for one dog. He spends his free time practicing public speaking, landscaping, photography, traveling and singing in the City Choir of Washington. Having aided Clarewood University in achieving accreditation, Dr. Linowes remains committed to leading the institution to continued success in the years ahead.
A PHILOSOPHICAL SHIFT
When Dr. Linowes transitioned from working on Wall Street to becoming a full-time teacher, he was unsure of his teaching style. That uncertainty pushed him to explore different teaching methods, experimenting until he discovered what worked best. For Dr. Linowes, the most successful teaching strategy stresses classroom interaction and prepares his students to be strategic leaders. One of his primary motivations for becoming an educator was to help fix the business world by preventing unethical behavior and encouraging an international approach.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Linowes set a strong foundation in his own education, beginning with a Bachelor of Arts in cybernetics from Princeton University in 1973. In 1975, he obtained a Master of Science in computer and communication sciences from the University of Michigan. Subsequently, Dr. Linowes earned a doctorate in business administration from Harvard University in 1984.
