Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Hoskins is lauded for his tenure and expertise in microbiology and enzyme technology, marked by a series of progressive roles and entrepreneurial ventures. In 2025, he founded SARi CONNECTiONS, where he currently serves as the company's founder. His work centers on advancing bio-based materials, with a particular emphasis on sourcing bamboo and bamboo composites to replace conventional plastics, such as polyethylene and polyurethane.

Among a range of responsibilities, Dr. Hoskins conducts research and development activities, reaches out to potential investors, and reconnects with former colleagues at BASF, a German chemcial company and global leader in chemical manufacturing. He is actively seeking partners and collaborators for a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the federal government, supporting incubators like his startup. Additionally, Dr. Hoskins is working to increase demand for North America's only native bamboo species, Rivercane, through impactful design by leading architectural design firms such as Gensler with the intention of establishing a sustainable supply chain of bamboo in North America to offset at least some of the $1B USD imported each year and that will also conttribute to balancing carbon and creating meaningful opportunities for local communities in the Southeast.

In addition to his work at SARi CONNECTiONS, Dr. Hoskins became a product manager and co-founder of Shop Althea Designs, supporting his wife's business that produces hats and apparel. He explores the application of graphic design and printing technology to home care goods and kitchenware, seeking responsibly sourced materials for future products.

From 2024 to 2025, Dr. Hoskins held the position of enzyme product category manager at Lallemand Inc., following the acquisition of technology he helped develop at BASF. In this capacity, he managed enzyme product lines for bioenergy and distilled spirits applications, leveraging his expertise in industrial microbiology.

Between 2015 and 2024, Dr. Hoskins served as product manager for bioenergy at BASF. His most notable achievement during this period was the launch of Spartec AMY 110, an innovative alpha-amylase enzyme product for starch hydrolyzation. The project originated after BASF acquired Verinium, a San Diego-based startup specializing in enzyme technology. Recognizing an opportunity to diversify BASF's portfolio to include bio-based chemistries, Dr. Hoskins proposed the new enzyme based on extensive market intelligence gathered from his team in the field. He led efforts to secure funding for a multi-million USD innovation project, culminating in the successful launch of Spartec AMY 110 in 2021, the first such product for BASF's bioenergy business since 2006. Dr. Hoskins also contributed to the creation of the SPARTEC umbrella brand and multiple auxiliary enzyme products, which added value to the company's bioenergy division before its acquisition by Lallemand last year.

Before that, from 2012 to 2015, Dr. Hoskins excelled as an independent consultant, providing scientific expertise and strategic guidance on microbial fermentation, process optimization projects, and sustianable development for U.S. and European-based businesses.

Among his foundational roles, Dr. Hoskins worked for Alltech as the SSF Development Coordinator from 2008 to 2010 and as an Applications Research Scientist until 2011. His professional journey began in 2000 as a Sales Engineer at Digital Optics Corporation in Charlotte, NC.

Dr. Hoskins' academic background has been instrumental in shaping his career trajectory. He completed a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in 1999. Subsequently, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in industrial microbiology from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 2008. Dr. Hoskins further enhanced his professional qualifications with certification in priority management with Microsoft Teams from Microsoft and additional credentials in product management and optimal product management/product marketing from Productside | Product Management Training.

Beyond his scientific pursuits, music has played an integral role throughout Dr. Hoskins' life. He began studying violin at age five via the Suzuki method and continued developing his skills under the mentorship of David Hagy while attending Wake Forest University. This experience enabled Dr. Hoskins to perform with the Salisbury Symphony in Salisbury, NC during college and with the Charlotte Philharmonic after relocating to Charlotte. Active civically, he has been affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International as a builder and translator and the Hope Center as an administrator.

Throughout his career, Dr. Hoskins has demonstrated expertise in microbiology and enzymes, earning recognition for his contributions to sustainable chemistry and biotechnology. Among his professional accomplishments, he earned a patent in 2010 for compositions and methods for conversion of lignocellulosic material to fermentable sugars and products produced therefrom.

Dr. Hoskins remains dedicated to making a positive impact through sustainable product lines with a primary focus on bamboo-based solutions. He emphasizes community involvement, education and storytelling as essential elements for showcasing opportunities beyond philanthropy alone. Dr. Hoskins's vision includes building a thriving business that benefits both society and the environment while fostering collaboration with his wife by integrating her graphic design skills with innovative materials development.
