Currently serving as the assistant principal at Young Scholars of Western Pennsylvania Charter School, Mr. Barr has established a prominent career in education. He is strongly dedicated to building strong relationships within the school community, facilitating open communication during behavioral matters and providing informal support to teachers through regular classroom visits.
Over the last two years in his current role, Mr. Barr has made a significant impact on the overall school environment and culture. He has introduced programs designed to support teachers and engage a broader student body, expanding his influence from his own classroom to approximately 330 students across the school. Two of his most notable initiatives introduced to the school include the integration of iPads into the classroom environment and the implementation of a data warehouse system used by teachers and administration to support discussions aimed at enhancing student academic progress. These initiatives have led to meaningful improvements in both academic achievement and school culture, marking a pivotal point in his professional journey.

During his tenure at Belle Vernon, he expanded his coaching expertise in both swimming and volleyball. Under his leadership, the school's swim team achieved significant accomplishments, including winning tournament championships and placing fourth at the Pennsylvania state competition. Additionally, he coached multiple individual athletes to gold medals at the Western Pennsylvania district and Pennsylvania state championships.
From 2015 to 2020, Mr. Barr served as the pool director at St. Clair Country Club, overseeing aquatic and food service operations. During this period, the club experienced its most profitable seasons to date. Mr. Barr also fostered strong relationships with members and staff, as evidenced by the club's success and his ability to retain most of his team members throughout his tenure.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Barr held teaching positions at Baldwin-Whitehall School District from 2013 to 2014 and Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School from 2011 to 2013. In these roles, he refined his instructional skills and benefited from mentorship from colleagues and close friends that would later inform his approach as an administrator.
Hailing from an equally impressive academic background, Mr. Barr earned a Master of Education in PK-12 school administration and principalship from Pennsylvania Western University in 2014 and a Bachelor of Science in mathematics education from The Pennsylvania State University in 2010. A proud father of two children, Mr. Barr enjoys spending quality time with his family and playing golf, video games and pickleball. Looking ahead, he remains focused on expanding resources and opportunities within Young Scholars of Western Pennsylvania while closely monitoring the impact of new initiatives on academic growth for both students and teachers. Committed to further enhancing achievement at the school, he aspires to advance into a principal role that allows him to maintain direct engagement with students. Throughout his journey in education, his commitment to student achievement, teacher support, and school culture transformation has been evident in every position he has held.
