In her current role as the environmental, health and safety program manager for Data Center Construction, she is responsible for implementing safety mandates at the earliest stages of every project. Tracking and reporting statistics and trends within a continually evolving data system, she ensures full legal compliance while safeguarding workers and fostering a robust safety culture within the organization.
Prior to joining Data Center Construction, Ms. Tobin served as a senior environmental, health and safety advisor for a power utilities and specialty contractor working on updating the nation's power grid. Specializing in overseeing the safety of extremely high risk activities, such as storm restoration, bare hand live line work, and helicopter operations, she played a key role in developing and implementing comprehensive safety programs tailored to the unique challenges of the utilities sector. Overseeing the construction and restoration of renewable energy projects, power generation, substations, and overhead and underground transmission and distribution lines across the country, her efforts contributed significantly to enhancing workplace safety standards and promoting a culture of continuous improvement, as well as building her team.
Ms. Tobin also worked as a safety consultant for five years, engaging in association and committee work that allowed her to influence industry best practices on a broader scale. During this period, she provided expert guidance to more than 900 organizations and programs — including nuclear facilities, mass demolition and the erection of hospitals seeking to shape policies and elevate safety protocols for their respective projects. Working with all trades and specialty contractors, as well as teaching a variety of classes for apprenticeship programs.
She held the position of safety director at a large-scale general contractor firm. Working in the vertical construction realm, she was responsible for overseeing all aspects of workplace safety, including program development, risk assessment, incident investigation and regulatory compliance. Her leadership was pivotal in reducing workplace incidents and fostering an environment where safety was prioritized at every level for all trade workers, including carpenters, electrical workers, plumbers and civil contractors.
Her earlier experience includes a role as an environment, health, and safety manager for a civil and utilities contractor that specializes in underground utility installation and hauling activities. In this role, she managed environmental, health and safety compliance and environmental cleanup initiatives, including the development of programs and training that improved employee awareness of health and safety protocols.
Ms. Tobin began her career in 2007 as an environmental, health and safety technician and environmental, safety, and quality scientist for a global environmental construction specialties contractor. Over five years in this foundational role, she gained valuable hands-on experience in hazard identification and mitigation, industrial hygiene, site inspections and regulatory reporting for various activities including dive operations and marine activities — skills that would underpin her ascent into future leadership positions.
Extending her leadership in safety and construction beyond her primary roles, Ms. Tobin has been deeply involved with industry organizations as well. She served as vice chair of the Executive Governance Committee from 2022 to 2024, acted as committee liaison for the Safety Committee from 2017 to 2022 and was an active member of the Safety Council from 2015 to 2017. Additionally, she maintains memberships with the American Society of Safety Professionals and the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. She also works closely with other organizations to help improve safety in the construction industry as a whole.
Ms. Tobin is dedicated to continuous learning and has earned more than 20 certifications that have been pivotal to her professional success. She holds multiple certificates from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and is certified in teaching several classes including first aid by the American Heart Association. Additionally, she is certified as a defensive driving instructor by the National Safety Council, in ladder safety by the American Ladder Institute, as a Construction Quality Manager from the Army Corps of Engineers and motorboat operator by the United States Coast Guard.
Reflecting on her storied journey to becoming a leader in construction and workplace safety, Ms. Tobin credits her achievements to the unwavering support and encouragement of her family. She believes that giving back daily is essential to one's personal fulfillment. Her primary motivation is ensuring that every worker returns home safely each day, underscoring her profound commitment to protecting others.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Ms. Tobin is civically engaged with Autism Speaks Inc. demonstrating her devotion to supporting individuals on the autism spectrum, as well as any foundation that supports the US military as she is an Army Mom. A proud mother of two children, she cherishes spending time with her family and enjoys outdoor activities such as driving fast cars, trail running, kayaking, skiing and sailing.
