Dr. Peterson's journey in education began at Newbury Park High School in California, where she spent more than six years teaching. She also served as an assistant women's basketball coach at California Lutheran University, following her experience as a Division I basketball athlete. Her passion for coaching ultimately inspired her transition into teaching—a path solidified after taking her first education course at California Lutheran University.

Her academic credentials reflect a deep commitment to continuous improvement and scholarly excellence. Dr. Peterson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations and Image Management from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1998, a Master of Education and teaching credential in Secondary Education from California Lutheran University in 2006, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction from Capella University in 2019, where her research focused on trauma-informed practices and teacher retention. She has further strengthened her expertise through advanced certifications, including PACEs Science Advocate from Trauma-Resilient Educational Communities (2024), National HeartMath Trainer, and The Art of Leadership Certificate from Harvard University.

Active in her professional community, Dr. Peterson has participated in Rippleworks Leading Thriving Teams Peer Circles and is a member of Learning Forward, Chief Learning Officer, and the American Evaluation Association. Beyond her professional endeavors, she has contributed to civic life as a volunteer coach for Special Olympics volleyball and basketball.

Throughout her two decades in education, Dr. Peterson's most meaningful achievements have been the lasting impact she has had on students.
