COLCHESTER, VT, December 01, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jessie Anderson has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Currently serving as a human resources generalist for the City of Burlington, Vermont, Ms. Anderson has led a remarkable career in cultural initiatives, collaboration, and organizational development. In this capacity, she is recognized for her expertise in benefits administration, data management for benefit systems, and fostering inclusive workplaces. She helps others address complex challenges such as insurance coverage issues, demonstrating her problem-solving acumen and commitment to employee wellness.
In addition to her primary responsibilities with the City of Burlington, Ms. Anderson holds a management position at Powered Magazine, a position she has held since 2024. Through her leadership role, she organizes programs that promote diversity and participation among communities of color in outdoor activities such as sailing, cross-country skiing, and mountain biking. She has further contributed to the well-being of others as a peer listener with Kindly Human since 2023, providing support, connection, and guidance to individuals navigating the social and emotional challenges of life.
Ms. Anderson began her tenure with the City of Burlington in 2021 as a Human Resources Administrative Coordinator, where she supported key HR functions until she transitioned to her Generalist role. That same year, she was an active member of the Juneteenth Empowerment Committee for the City of Burlington, contributing to initiatives that promote racial equity and inclusion.
In 2021, Ms. Anderson received a GrowTeam fellowship from ShiftMeals, where she collaborated with other Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) to promote Afro-Indigenous techniques for growing food and enriching local communities throughout Vermont. Her dedication to professional growth is further reflected in her active membership with ForbesBLK, aligning her with a network of Black professionals who are equally committed to leadership, innovation, and inclusion.
Ms. Anderson's foundational experience includes serving as a behavioral intervention intern at Howard Center from 2020 to 2021, during which she supported students in regulating their behavior through both school engagement and interactive outdoor activities.
Concurrently, Ms. Anderson was a resident assistant at Saint Michael's College from 2018 to 2021, providing leadership and support within the campus community. Her contributions during this time earned her the Outstanding Staff Member for Residential Life award in 2019. She also managed guest services at McDonald's in Williston, Vermont, from 2019 to 2021, honing her skills in customer service, leadership training, and team management.
As a first-generation college graduate, Ms. Anderson takes immense pride in her academic achievements. She earned a master's degree in organization development and human relations from Champlain College in 2024 — a milestone that exceeded her own expectations given the effort required to complete her undergraduate studies. She also obtained a bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in religious studies from Saint Michael's College in 2021.
Ms. Anderson's academic excellence is underscored by numerous honors and awards. She graduated with distinction from the Honors Program at Saint Michael's College in 2021, received the Michael D. Samara Award for Residential Life that same year, and was inducted into Delta Epsilon Sigma National Honor Society for Catholic Colleges and Universities, Psi Chi: The International Honor Society in Psychology, and Theta Alpha Kappa National Honor Society for Religious Studies and Theology through the local chapter at Saint Michael's.
To augment her knowledge and adaptability, Ms. Anderson completed the Nano Tips for a Bold Career with Akosua Boadi-Agyemang course through LinkedIn in 2023. She was also certified by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) in compensation and benefits, data and human resource management, employee selection, equal employment opportunity, talent management, and career development, all in 2021.
Reflecting on her storied journey to date, Ms. Anderson attributes her success to the steadfast encouragement of her mother — a single parent who instilled in her the values of independence and perseverance — and the unwavering support of family and friends who believed in her capabilities even during her moments of self-doubt.
Civic engagement is another central part of Ms. Anderson's life. She serves as a board member for Conscious Homestead, which promotes land-based liberation and support among urban communities of color, and has volunteered as an empowerment and self-defense instructor with The Safety Team since 2024. Her commitment to community service includes volunteering with the Association of Africans Living in Vermont (AALV Inc.) and supporting multicultural youth programs through Spectrum Youth and Family Services. Fluent in English and Liberian Kreyol, she continues to leverage her multilingual abilities to connect with diverse communities both professionally and personally.
Recognized for her outstanding contributions and advocacy throughout her career, Ms. Anderson received the Rising Star Award from Vermont Business Magazine in 2024 as well as the Juneteenth Empowerment Committee Award from the Racial Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Department of the City of Burlington in 2021.
Outside of her professional commitments, Ms. Anderson enjoys spending time with her family and supporting communities in need through various initiatives. In the coming years, she aspires to become a parent — a deeply meaningful goal — and seeks to expand her impact by becoming a Chief People Officer within a global organization. Ultimately, she hopes to share the knowledge gained through her education and experiences in the United States with her home country of Liberia, driving progress, equity, and inclusivity for individuals, families, and communities worldwide.
