THORNTON, CO, December 01, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Whitney Daum, MSN, MPH, RN, CIC, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. Ms. Daum currently serves as infection prevention program manager at CommonSpirit Health, a role she began in 2025. In this capacity, she oversees infection prevention efforts at both CommonSpirit Longmont United Hospital and St. Elizabeth Hospital. Her responsibilities include reviewing laboratory reports, microbiology findings, culture results and surgical notes to identify potential healthcare-associated infections. She also assesses areas of concern where communicable diseases may pose risks to patients, staff or visitors and monitors trends to apply scientific best practices. She collaborates with stakeholders across the hospitals to prevent adverse events, demonstrating her expertise in epidemiology of infectious disease and public health.

Prior to joining CommonSpirit Health, Ms. Daum held several positions at HCA Healthcare from 2016 to 2025, including infection preventionist, manager, director and abstractor. During her tenure, she played a pivotal role in infection prevention, most notably during the COVID-19 pandemic. She and her team navigated rapidly changing information and directives from higher authorities while striving to uphold scientific standards and protect patients, staff and the community. This period required exceptional adaptability, effective communication and the ability to maintain trust amid uncertainty—qualities that underscore her professional dedication.

From 2015 to 2016, Ms. Daum was an infection prevention specialist at Denver Health, where she contributed to the development and implementation of infection control protocols. In 2014 to 2015, she served as an infection preventionist at University of Colorado Health Northern Colorado, further honing her skills in identifying and mitigating infectious disease risks within health care settings.

Ms. Daum's earlier experience includes working as a perioperative registered nurse at Children's Hospital Colorado from 2012 to 2014. There, she provided direct patient care in surgical environments while supporting infection control initiatives. Concurrently, she completed a communicable disease control internship with Boulder County Public Health from 2013 to 2014, gaining valuable public health experience.

Ms. Daum started her career at Akron Children's Hospital in Ohio, where she worked as a staff registered nurse from 2009 to 2012 after serving as a student nurse technician from 2007 to 2009. These foundational roles allowed her to develop clinical expertise and a commitment to patient-centered care.

Ms. Daum is recognized for her professional affiliations with leading organizations in her field. She has been a member of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology Inc. since 2014 and has participated in the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America from 2021 to 2023 as well as Mile High APIC.

Her academic background is distinguished by advanced degrees that have directly supported her career achievements. She earned a Master of Public Health in epidemiology with a focus on infectious disease from Colorado School of Public Health in 2014. In 2018, she completed a Master of Science in Nursing in infection prevention and control at American Sentinel College of Nursing & Health Sciences. Ms. Daum graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Akron in 2009.

Ms. Daum holds several professional certifications that reflect her commitment to excellence in nursing and infection control. She obtained certification in infection control from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology Inc. in 2015, became a certified pediatric nurse through the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board 2011 through 2021 and has been licensed as a registered nurse by the Board of Nursing since 2009.

Beyond her professional responsibilities, Ms. Daum is actively involved in civic initiatives and advocacy work. She is an advocate for animal rescues and public health causes and volunteers with addiction and mental health initiatives as well as suicide prevention programs.

Her contributions have been recognized with several honors, including being named Alumnus of the Year by the New Philadelphia City Schools Quaker Foundation in 2023, receiving a nomination for the DAISY Award from the Akron Children's Hospital DAISY Award Committee in 2011 and induction into the Golden Key International Honour Society in 2009. Throughout her career, Ms. Daum has attributed her success to remaining true to herself—a principle that has guided her through difficult decisions and life changes while maintaining focus on helping others as well as herself.

Outside of work, Ms. Daum values time spent with her daughter and their dogs.
