NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC, December 02, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael R. Atwood has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Atwood's professional journey of more than 30 years reflects a distinguished record of leadership, achievement and adaptability across the textile and real estate industries. Since 2021, he has served as a sales manager at OceanFront Guru Luxury Real Estate Expert, where his commitment to both buyer and seller services has contributed significantly to the company's growth and reputation in connecting clients with their ideal oceanfront properties.
Prior to joining OceanFront Guru, Mr. Atwood excelled as a training manager at Coldwell Banker Sea Coast Advantage — the culmination of nearly two decades with the real estate agency — from 2019 to 2021. During a period of significant industry change, he was responsible for developing training programs as well as the hiring and management of nearly 500 new agents.
From 2009 to 2021, Mr. Atwood held the role of broker in charge at Coldwell Banker, overseeing operations in both Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach to ensure all agents were united under a consistent business model. During this time, he also served as a broker in charge for the North Myrtle Beach, Briarcliffe and Shore Drive offices from 2009 to 2019. His leadership during the market downturn in 2009 — which also led to changes in personnel — was vital in stabilizing operations and expanding the firm's reach.
Mr. Atwood began his real estate career as a broker associate with Coldwell Banker Chicora Advantage Real Estate from 2002 to 2009. Quickly establishing himself as a top professional in the field, he leveraged his dual broker's licenses in South Carolina and North Carolina to serve clients across state lines who sought new homes, rentals and development opportunities. His outstanding performance during this time saw him honored with the International President's Circle Top Producer every year from 2003 to 2007.
Before transitioning into real estate, Mr. Atwood built a formidable career of 25 years in the textile industry. He excelled as vice president of operations for North Carolina at Diversco Inc. — a prominent staffing and multi-staffing firm that provides security and ground maintenance for textile, automotive and power plants — from 1996 to 2001. As the plant manager at Forbo Siegling in Huntersville from 1994 to 1996 and at WestPoint-Stevens from 1990 to 1994, he oversaw manufacturing, packaging and shipping facilities and guided hundreds of employees through periods of significant change.
Mr. Atwood's early career began at Fieldcrest-Cannon Inc., where he worked in a variety of operations including warehousing, towel fabrication and yarn manufacturing from 1979 to 1990. Notably, at age 24, he became the youngest superintendent in the company's history — a testament to his leadership abilities and work ethic. He later advanced to plant manager roles at several facilities, including the Laurel Hill Carpet Plant in Laurel Hill, North Carolina and the Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Mill in Lyerly, Georgia. After experiencing multiple plant closures, he made the pivotal decision not to relocate overseas and instead pursued new opportunities in real estate.
Alongside his primary roles, Mr. Atwood has been actively involved in industry organizations and community associations. He has been president of the Joint Committee at Barefoot Resort & Golf since 2018 and has served as vice president, president, director at large and director of multi-family for the Barefoot Resort Residential Association since 2011. Professionally affiliated with the Coastal Carolinas Association of Realtors®, the National Association of Realtors® and South Carolina Realtors® for more than 20 years, he has long been devoted to expanding his network while staying abreast of best practices.
Before venturing onto his professional path at Fieldcrest-Cannon, Mr. Atwood pursued higher education and earned a Bachelor of Science with honors in textile technology from North Carolina State University in 1979. Determined to make an impact outside the classroom as well, he was a member of the Tompkins Textile Council and Delta Kappa Phi. His outstanding scholastic contributions at North Carolina State saw him honored with the Joseph D. Moore Honor Award.
To augment his real estate qualifications, Mr. Atwood was certified as a negotiation specialist by the Real Estate Negotiation Institute in 2017 and holds real estate broker's licenses in both South Carolina and North Carolina. The values instilled by his family, who were hoteliers and restaurant owners, have played a significant role in shaping his character and approach to business. Their shining example taught him that dedication and goal-setting are essential for success, with each new accomplishment motivating him to set even higher objectives for the future.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Atwood is civically engaged as president of the Greenbrier Board of Directors and was involved with Jaycees chapters in Eden and Laurinburg from 1980 to 1990. In honor of his efforts in chairing various community-driven projects, he was presented with the prestigious Jaycees 10th Degree. He has also participated in golf tournament fundraisers for 10 years and regularly volunteers for beach clean-up initiatives in North Myrtle Beach, highlighting his longstanding dedication to giving back to his community.
Reflecting on his storied journey, Mr. Atwood is most proud of being a devoted father to three daughters who are thriving in their respective pursuits — a source of personal fulfillment that surpasses all of his professional accomplishments. He is also delighted to have completed his successful transition into real estate, which provided additional opportunities for his family and showed them firsthand that they could achieve their dreams as well. As a balance to his work at OceanFront Guru, he enjoys hobbies such as scuba diving, golfing and playing guitar.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Atwood remains committed to serving on boards of directors within his community with the aim of driving progress, ensuring safety and enhancing quality of life for the residents of North Myrtle Beach and beyond.
