Ms. Vernatti has distinguished herself through a dedicated career, having spent more than 25 years in education, culminating in her retirement in 2012 as a former principal in the Alton School District in Alton, Illinois. Her professional journey was marked by a steadfast commitment to student growth, educational excellence and organizational leadership.

In her most recent role as a district principal from 1987 to 2012, Ms. Vernatti was recognized for fostering a positive learning environment. She was particularly proud to serve in this leading role at the very school where she had previously taught. Her tenure was characterized by a passion for education, a collaborative spirit and a focus on student-centered decision-making. Best known for her open communication with parents and teachers, Ms. Vernatti always encouraged them to value the education system and to work together for the students' benefit. This philosophy enabled her to always prioritize the children's best interests in every decision.

Ms. Vernatti previously excelled as a principal and building technologist at North Elementary School for over five years. When she arrived, the school was an aging, former middle school in need of transformation. She worked tirelessly to convert it into a vibrant elementary school, from attending professional meetings to performing physical labor.

Before her work at North Elementary School, Ms. Vernatti spent 15 years as a principal at Eunice Smith Elementary School. Her leadership there was marked by innovation and a deep commitment to student success. She was also recognized for developing and implementing activities designed to improve instruction and promote collaboration among staff.

Ms. Vernatti began her career as a fifth-grade teacher at Eunice Smith Elementary School, where she taught for 10 years. Earlier in her career, she worked as a poverty instructor within the district for several years, addressing the unique challenges faced by students from low-income backgrounds.

Ms. Vernatti's educational background includes a bachelor's degree in education in 1986 and a master's degree in educational administration in 1996 from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Her academic achievements provided a strong foundation for her career, equipping her with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective school leadership.

Throughout her career, Ms. Vernatti has been an active member of the Illinois Principals Association, reflecting her commitment to professional development and educational leadership. She has also served as the secretary of the Retired Teachers Council, demonstrating her ongoing dedication to the academic community even after retirement.

In light of her success, Ms. Vernatti was recognized with an Excellence in Education Award from the State of Illinois in 2005. Among her most notable accomplishments, however, was her leadership in implementing the Professional Learning Communities program during 2004 and 2005. This initiative created grade-level teams with dedicated time to collaborate, enhancing instructional quality and fostering a culture of teamwork. Attributing her success to her organizational skills and unwavering commitment to education, Ms. Vernatti also notes the support of her colleagues and, more importantly, her family, who have been a constant source of encouragement, celebrating her ambitions and achievements.
