Prior to reaching his current role at Geosyntec, Mr. Mahajan advanced through several positions while climbing the company ladder. He began his tenure as an engineering professional from 2014 to 2017, then progressed to project engineer until 2020. His dedication and proficiency led to his promotion to senior engineer, a position he held until 2025 before assuming his current managerial responsibilities. Before joining Geosyntec, he honed his skills as a water resources engineer at Tetra Tech Inc., where he developed and implemented a hydrodynamic water quality model to enhance sedimentation and erosion analysis of lakes. His exceptional contributions there earned him accolades such as the Outstanding Achievement Award, the Technical Achievement Award and the Project Management Merit Award.
Mr. Mahajan's storied engineering career commenced with a role as a student contractor at the United States Environmental Protection Agency in the Office of Research and Development from 2009 to 2010, which provided him with invaluable exposure to environmental protection initiatives. His academic journey began with a Bachelor of Engineering in civil engineering from Punjab Engineering College in 2007, followed by a Master of Science in environmental engineering from the University of Cincinnati (UC) in 2009.
To further enhance his qualifications, Mr. Mahajan is board-certified as a water resources engineer by the American Academy of Water Resources Engineering, a professional engineer by the Georgia State Board of Registration and Certified Floodplain Manager. Complementing his technical prowess, he also holds certifications from LinkedIn in various leadership and management skills. His dedication to continuous learning is evident through these achievements as well as his active participation in other development opportunities.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Mahajan is actively involved in several industry-related organizations. He serves as vice chair of the Watershed Management Committee for the Water Environment Federation and has been the committee chair for Governmental Affairs with the Illinois Water Environment Association since 2021. His commitment to civic engagement extends to participating in community initiatives such as Chicago River Day, an annual cleanup event aimed at improving the local river system for people, plants and animals alike.
Throughout his career, Mr. Mahajan has contributed significantly to scholarly publications and conferences, sharing insights on hydraulic modeling, sewer overflow solutions and water resource management. His work has been featured in esteemed forums such as the Water Environment Federation's Technical Exhibition and Conference, World Environmental and Water Resources Congress and other conferences.
