Mr. Sawyer has established a distinguished career spanning more than four decades, marked by his expertise in core sampling, petrography and mineralogy. Since 1984, he has served as a licensed geoscientist operating independently, demonstrating a sustained commitment to the field and earning recognition for his adaptability and enduring passion for his profession.

From 2012 to 2016, Mr. Sawyer held the position of teacher and T-STEM chair at Harmony Science Academy in Dallas, Texas. In this capacity, he played a pivotal role in advancing science, technology, engineering and mathematics education, fostering an environment that encouraged student engagement and academic excellence. His dedication to education was further exemplified during his tenure as a science teacher and science department chair with Dallas Independent School District from 1999 to 2004, where he contributed to the academic development of countless students.

In 2004-2005, Mr. Sawyer was recruited by Wood Group and served as a science and mathematics teacher where he applied his scientific knowledge to support student learning in both disciplines. His earlier experience as an environmental manager at Law Engineering & Environmental Services Inc. from 1993 to 1996 involved overseeing environmental projects and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Between 1991 and 1993, Mr. Sawyer held multiple roles, including contracting manager at AMRESCO Management Inc., environmental specialist at Financial Resource Management Inc. in Dallas and real estate inspector with NationsBank. These positions allowed him to develop a comprehensive understanding of environmental management, financial resource allocation and property assessment. From 1986 to 1988, he worked as a geologist and minerals appraiser with Capitol Appraisal Group Inc., where he was responsible for evaluating mineral resources and providing expert appraisals.

Mr. Sawyer's professional journey is further distinguished by his active involvement in industry organizations. He is a member of the Association for Climate Education and holds the designation of Texas professional geoscientist. Additionally, he previously served as treasurer of the Dallas Geological Society, reflecting his commitment to advancing the geosciences community.

His academic background includes a Master of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Dallas, earned in 1997, which provided him with advanced business acumen to complement his scientific expertise. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in geology with a minor in mathematics from The University of Texas at Arlington, completed in 1983. This strong educational foundation has been instrumental in supporting his multifaceted career.

Mr. Sawyer's professional credentials include certification as a professional geologist, completion of the Texas Aquatic Science Workshop through Texas Parks & Wildlife in 2015, Birding 101 from The University of Texas at Dallas Center for STEM Education and Research in 2015 and Climate Literacy: Navigating Climate Change Conversations through Coursera in 2013.

His contributions to education have been recognized with the North Texas Region Teacher of the Year award from the Alliance of Climate Education in 2013. He attributes his success to a steadfast work ethic, persistent curiosity and an unwavering desire to understand the world. This drive has propelled him to seek out new knowledge and opportunities throughout his career.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Mr. Sawyer has demonstrated a commitment to civic engagement as a parent volunteer with Boy Scouts of America Troop 636 Tejas Caddo since 2006. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, walking, spending time in nature, playing guitar, reading and singing at karaoke nights. He considers his ability to survive, adapt and maintain joy in his work among his most significant achievements, alongside the personal milestone of raising children.
