TOPEKA, KS, December 12, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Yeqiang Wang has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Marked by significant achievements and a longstanding commitment to both education and creative excellence, Mr. Wang has led a remarkable career in the field of art. Since 2021, he has served as a professor of art at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, where he teaches drawing, oil painting, and watercolor. He began his tenure at Washburn in 2007 as an assistant professor of art and gained nine years of experience as an associate professor before attaining his current position. Specializing in both photorealism and impressionism, he has been recognized for his innovative approach to art and art education and dedication to fostering artistic and personal growth among his students. In his teaching, he combines solid skills training from China with concept development from the States and his student works are fruitful. Over the years, more than 20 student works have been juried into national competitions, over 40 have been selected for statewide exhibitions, and numerous student works have been accepted in local exhibitions.
In addition to his responsibilities at Washburn University, Mr. Wang has contributed to the local community as president of the Topeka Chinese-American Association for 10 years. He also runs oil and watercolor workshops, gives art presentations, and judges art shows in the community. In these capacities, he has played an important role in promoting visual arts and cultural exchange while supporting the interests of artists throughout the region.
Prior to his relocation to North America, Mr. Wang taught at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in China from 1991 to 1998. During his tenure there, he was an active member of the Sichuan Artists Association and participated in national competitions, earning three bronze awards for his watercolor paintings. Despite these accomplishments, he felt compelled to seek new opportunities abroad after concluding that he had reached an artistic plateau in China.
Upon moving to Canada, Mr. Wang became a member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour and taught drawing and painting courses at the School of Visual Arts at the University of Windsor. He later obtained Canadian citizenship and subsequently American citizenship, holding dual citizenship status while relinquishing his Chinese citizenship due to Chinese regulations. Now making a widespread impact on art and education in the United States, he is affiliated with the Chinese American Art Faculty Association, the Southeastern College Art Conference, the National Oil and Acrylic Painters' Society, the Kansas Watercolor Society, and the Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars.
Mr. Wang's artistic achievements are extensive and widely recognized. He is particularly proud of his "Return to Classicism" painting series, which features oil paintings inspired by European classical masterpieces that he has recreated through reflective photography. In this series, he juxtaposes classical images with contemporary signs such as neon lights, billboards, cars, etc. to create contrast between the past and the present. The reflections of modern urban environment over the classical images deconstruct the recreated images and prompt a reflection on Classicism. This body of work has garnered him 30 awards, including 11 first places and 3 second places in national competitions between 2016 and 2025.
In total, Mr. Wang has received more than 50 accolades throughout his career. Notably, in 2017 alone, he secured first-place awards at the Northern National Art Competition in Wisconsin, the Wichita National All-Media Exhibition in Kansas, the Texas National, and the Overland Park National Juried Show in Kansas. In 2024, he achieved first place in the national exhibition at Epperson Gallery in California as well as first place in Kansas—his inaugural statewide award—which led to a solo exhibition the following year. His widely acclaimed oil on canvas piece "Return to Classicism-Portrait of a Lady" has also received multiple distinctions.
Before venturing onto his international path in teaching and the arts, Mr. Wang pursued higher education and earned a Master of Fine Arts in painting from the University of Windsor in 2000 after completing coursework from 1998 to 2000. He previously obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in art education from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in Chongqing, China, in 1991. To further his credentials as an educator, he completed teacher certification coursework from 1981 to 1983.
Mr. Wang's passion for art began around the age of 6, when he would carve trees and bamboo or use discarded chalk pieces from school to draw on walls and floors at home—despite the disapproval of his parents. His enthusiasm persisted through adolescence when he attended teaching school at age 15 and majored in English while dedicating his spare time to painting and drawing for personal enjoyment. By 17, he graduated and became an English teacher for middle school students before fully pursuing his artistic ambitions. As a proud and devoted father now, he enjoys kayaking and biking with his daughter Helena and hobbies such as photography, gardening, and traveling.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Wang plans to step back from Washburn University upon reaching retirement age and aspires to travel throughout Europe to explore its artistic cities and cultures while continuing to paint. He intends to devote himself more fully to advancing his painting series of "Return to Classicism" and is currently preparing a new series inspired by paintings with historical costume designs from the 15th century.
As he has done throughout most of his life, Mr. Wang remains committed to making meaningful contributions to the art world and sharing his passion with others through ongoing creative exploration and the development of distinctive artistic perspectives.
