FLANDERS, NJ, December 17, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Matthew Charles Johnston, Esq., has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Recognized for his expertise in real estate law and his innovative approach to client service, Dr. Johnston has led a distinguished career as both an attorney and educator. Since 2002, he has served as the managing partner and attorney at the Law Offices of Matthew C. Johnston, Esq., LLC, where he transformed the traditional model of legal practice in real estate transactions.

Dr. Johnston was the first in his region to provide his personal cell phone number on business cards and to make himself available after standard business hours, fostering stronger relationships with real estate agents and clients as a result. By offering professional courses on real estate and prioritizing accessibility, he set a new industry standard that was soon adopted by other attorneys, significantly expanding his firm's reach and influence. Under his leadership, the firm became one of the busiest real estate boutiques in northern New Jersey, completing thousands of transactions within its first decade, dedicating a division in short sale transactions, as well as engaging in landlord tenant practice. The Firm later expanded its expertise to include bankruptcy and family law for a short period.

In addition to his legal practice, Dr. Johnston has maintained a longstanding commitment to higher education. Since 2003, he has been a Professor of European History at County College of Morris, where he is the sole, dedicated instructor for Early Modern and Modern European History courses. His teaching career began in 1999 at Centenary College, where he taught business law and political science until 2002. Through his dual roles as an educator and attorney, he shares a unique perspective and practical knowledge with his students while continuing to shape the legal landscape.

Prior to founding his own law firm, Dr. Johnston was an associate attorney at Courter Kobert & Cohen from 1999 to 2003. There, he specialized in commercial litigation and contract disputes but gravitated toward real estate matters, leveraging both his investment experience and customer service background. His early legal experience also includes service as a law clerk for Judge Barbara Zucker-Zarett from 1998 to 1999 and as a legal intern for Chancery Court Judge Kenneth C. Mackenzie of Morris County, New Jersey, from 1995 to 1998 where he gained valuable insight into the local court system, chancery practice and honed his skills in special civil and landlord-tenant cases.

Before entering the legal profession, Dr. Johnston built a strong foundation in management through multiple roles in the retail sector. He served as an award winning general manager at RadioShack, was the youngest general manager for Nobody Beats the Wiz in Secaucus, New Jersey, and was an assistant manager at several Wendy's restaurants during the late 1980s and early 1990s, quickly rising through the ranks due to his leadership abilities. Earlier in his journey, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1984.

Highly regarded for his expertise in real estate law, Dr. Johnston continues to share insights and expand his network as an active member of professional organizations including the Minnesota State Bar Association, The District of Columbia Bar and the New Jersey State Bar Association.
Much of Dr. Johnston's success stems from his equally accomplished academic background. He earned a Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1998 after completing coursework as a legal intern and law clerk during his studies. Additionally, he completed a master's degree in Modern European Intellectual History at Drew University in 1997, following a dual bachelor's degree, magna cum laude, in history and political science in 1993.

Before attending Drew University, Dr. Johnston obtained an associate degree cum laude in social sciences from County College of Morris in 1991. To augment his knowledge and qualifications, he holds an electronic certification from Morris County Vocational Technical School.

Throughout his career, Dr. Johnston has attributed his success to maintaining humility in business practices as well as the strong listening skills he developed during his time as a mediator within the court system. He achieved high solution rates by separating emotion from advice while guiding his clients with compassion and pragmatism — a philosophy that continues to inform both his legal work and teaching.

Dr. Johnston's contributions as both a student and educator have seen him recognized with several accolades, including the Best Oralist Award from Seton Hall University School of Law and teaching awards from County College of Morris.

Born in Newark in 1966 before moving to Long Valley as a child, Dr. Johnston overcame early challenges with concentration by excelling in English and reading — skills that would later serve him well throughout his academic pursuits and professional life. He is the father of one daughter and two sons.

Outside of his professional commitments, Dr. Johnston enjoys traveling to Europe and is deeply committed to community service through church organizations. He is also passionate about animal welfare — particularly the rescue of cats in need — and owns a small farm in New Jersey where he provides sanctuary for cats that cannot be adopted, working closely with local rescue groups to give them a better life.

Looking toward the future, Dr. Johnston remains dedicated to advancing real estate law while expanding his involvement with church organizations and enhancing his efforts to rescue animals on his farm — continuing a longstanding legacy defined by innovation, compassion and service to others through everything he does.
