From 2016 to 2021, Dr. Álvarez served as managing director of global markets, securities finance, and risk at State Street in Greater Boston. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in establishing a standardized risk oversight function for both agent- and principal-securities financing businesses. He prioritized building trust and fostering strong partnerships within the organization, ensuring that commercial opportunities were balanced with robust risk oversight. Between 2014 and 2015, Dr. Álvarez served as director, trading credit and market risk for securities finance at RBC Capital Markets in the New York City Metropolitan Area. He was responsible for overseeing counterparty credit and market risks associated with securities finance activities, contributing to the institution's ability to manage complex financial exposures.

From 2010 to 2014, Dr. Álvarez was executive director and global head of risk for agent securities lending and prime brokerage at JPMorgan Chase & Co., also in the New York Metropolitan Area. In this global leadership role, he directed risk management strategies for agent securities lending and prime brokerage operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and advancing best practices across international markets.

Dr. Álvarez's earlier experience includes serving as vice president, chief of staff to the executive vice president of capital markets and risk management at Fannie Mae in Washington, D.C., from 2005 to 2010. He supported senior leadership in developing and implementing capital markets strategies during a period marked by significant industry transformation.

From 2003 to 2005, he was vice president and manager of the operational risk management department at Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi, Ltd. in New York City. There, he designed an operational risk framework and contributed to strengthening internal controls.

As associate director and financial engineer at Hypovereinsbank (now part of Unicredit Bank AG) from 2001 to 2003, Dr. Álvarez applied quantitative methods to support financial engineering projects within the New York City Metropolitan Area.

From 2000 to 2001, he worked as an operational risk consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers in New York City, advising clients on best practices for operational risk assessment and mitigation.
Dr. Álvarez began his career as an assistant vice president and team manager of the fixed-income processing platform at Deutsche Bank (Bankers Trust Co) in New York City from 1997 to 2000. In this foundational role, he managed teams responsible for processing fixed income transactions and supporting critical infrastructure for capital markets operations.

Throughout his career, Dr. Álvarez has been recognized for his breadth and depth across multiple disciplines within risk management.
