PALO ALTO, CA, December 17, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Albert K. Chin, MD, is a distinguished biographee of Marquis Who's Who. He was recently spotlighted in New York City's Times Square on a 22-story screen that is passed by an estimated 1.5 million people daily. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are chosen from among a pool of the most prominent professionals and are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Chin's career is distinguished by a relentless pursuit of innovation in medical technology, particularly within the field of cardiovascular care. As the co-founder and chief innovation officer at Orare Medsystems Inc. since 2022, he has led the development of advanced medical devices, working closely with physicians to transform clinical concepts into functional products. His role involves overseeing multiple projects across five companies, evaluating new ideas from clinicians and guiding them through the design and development process.

Since 2020, Dr. Chin has similarly served as the co-founder and chief innovation officer at FemDx Medsystems Inc., where he has contributed to the creation of novel devices for gynecological procedures. In 2019, he co-founded PercAssist Inc., where his work on artificial heart technology represents the pinnacle of his career. The device he developed allows for cardiac support without open-heart surgery, utilizing a minimally invasive approach that has already demonstrated life-saving results in early clinical studies.

Likewise, at TAS Medical Inc., which he co-founded in 2017, Dr. Chin spearheaded the design of a device for laparoscopic and robotic-assisted ventral hernia repair. This innovative solution employs medical grade zip ties instead of traditional sutures, reducing tissue damage and improving patient outcomes. The device has been successfully used in over 250 cases and is now available for both robotic and laparoscopic surgeries.

Earlier in his career, from 2015 to 2020, Dr. Chin was the co-founder and chief innovation officer at InnoVein Inc., focusing on vascular interventions. He previously co-founded Cruzar Medsystems Inc. and nVision Medical Inc., contributing to advancements in minimally invasive diagnostics and therapies. Between 2009 and 2012, Dr. Chin was a co-founder at Pavilion Medical Innovations LLC, where he continued to drive forward-thinking solutions in medical technology. His leadership as chief innovation officer at Maquet Cardiovascular and Boston Scientific Cardiac Surgery further solidified his reputation as a pioneer in the field.

Furthermore, Dr. Chin's tenure as vice president of research at Guidant Cardiac Surgery from 1994 to 2007 marked a period of significant growth in his career. Here, he played a central role in developing devices that have become standards of care worldwide. Prior to this appointment, he was a co-founder at Origin Medsystems Inc. from 1989 to 1994, where he helped launch technologies that would later be acquired by major industry players.

Among Dr. Chin's most notable achievements is the invention of the VasoView and Venapax devices for endoscopic vein harvesting in coronary artery bypass surgery. Introduced in 1996, this technology revolutionized cardiac surgery by reducing patient pain and complications associated with traditional vein harvesting methods. Now used in over 90% of such procedures across the United States and benefiting more than three million patients, VasoView and Venapax stand as a testament to Dr. Chin's impact on modern medicine.

Impressively, Dr. Chin holds an extraordinary portfolio of 238 issued U.S. patents, reflecting decades of creative problem-solving and technical expertise. His inventions span artificial heart technology — currently undergoing clinical trials — to minimally invasive hernia repair devices and diagnostic tools for early detection of ovarian cancer.

Dr. Chin participated in residency training in general surgery at Parkland Memorial Hospital at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas until 1985 after earning a Doctor of Medicine from the School of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco in 1983. His academic journey began with a Master of Science in mechanical engineering from Stanford University in 1976 and a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1975.

Dr. Chin's commitment to education extends beyond personal achievement. For seventeen years, he has served as an annual lecturer at Stanford University, mentoring sophomore and junior biomedical engineering students on design principles rooted in simplicity and functionality. Dr. Chin's civic involvement includes advisory board roles at Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University and ongoing engagement with faith communities through music performance. Notably, Dr. Chin has received numerous accolades throughout his career, including the Invented Here! Top Award from the Boston Patent Law Association in 2018 and the Ideals of Entrepreneurship Award from Emerging Entrepreneurs in Biomedical Technology at Stanford University in 2007.

Outside his professional endeavors, Dr. Chin enjoys playing piano and violin and exercising regularly. He is dedicated to mentoring future innovators while remaining actively engaged with hands-on prototyping, rigorous bench testing and animal studies that inform each new device iteration. Dr. Chin remains committed to designing functional medical devices that address critical clinical needs.
