PORTLAND, OR, January 06, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Glen Macready has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Hailing from several decades of expertise and success, Mr. Macready has led a remarkable career as a songwriter, producer and engineer — most notably as the founder of Decompression Studios. Since 2004, he has led the analog recording studio, where his expertise in composing music and developing artists has garnered critical acclaim. His role involves meticulously reviewing mixes, making precise adjustments such as lowering bass frequencies and enhancing vocal presence, and guiding artists to achieve optimal sound quality. His collaborative efforts have resulted in highly praised records, including ongoing projects with award-winning flamenco guitarist Gareth Koch and the development of his own musical works.
The inception of Decompression Studios was closely tied to Mr. Macready's involvement with James Lawrence and Teletronix during their induction into the Technology Hall of Fame, an initiative of the Audio Engineering Society. Tasked with compiling biographies for the event, Mr. Macready leveraged his access to archival materials to document the achievements that led to their recognition. This experience inspired him to formalize his studio operations under the Decompression Studios name in 2004.
One of Mr. Macready's earliest projects at Decompression Studios was a collaboration with Greg Collier, whose solo work followed his tenure with Silver— a band signed to Arista Records and featured in a "Guardians of the Galaxy" film. Mr. Collier also worked with the First Edition post Kenny Rogers. Mr. Macready's creative output includes authoring a book of poetry and composing music for theatrical productions like "War Babies," a widely acclaimed play about Ireland during the time when Bobby Sands died during a hunger strike while in prison.
Mr. Macready's international reach expanded significantly just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, when he became involved in projects from Australia. Providing detailed feedback on mixes and mastering processes, he co-produced the 2019 album "Chrysae Planitia," released on Foghorn Records — an Australian label affiliated with MGM — and featuring Steve Kilbey of The Church and Gareth Koch. Following this project, he contributed as the executive producer of the artists' 2020 project "Songs from Another Life," further solidifying his reputation for excellence in music production.
Prior to founding Decompression Studios, Mr. Macready gained valuable experience in design through his work at Golden Impressions, where he honed his skills in graphic arts and specialty printing. He also worked in the publishing business and graphics enterprises, earning various awards for outstanding contributions to the field. Earlier in his career, he wrote music professionally and developed his growing reputation for creative innovation.
Mr. Macready's exposure to the arts began during his childhood within his grandmother Dorothea Hulse's weaving studio — a creative environment that fostered his lifelong appreciation for craftsmanship and artistry. At just 3 years old during the 1953 production of "The Robe," he witnessed firsthand the dedication required for high-profile Hollywood projects; his grandmother wove the film's titular robe while his grandfather constructed the loom. An incident involving Mr. Macready "accidentally" cutting the robe off the loom led to an all-night effort by his family to recreate it — a story that became part of Hollywood lore when the replacement was deemed superior by studio executives.
Reflecting his longstanding commitment to both industry engagement and leadership development, Mr. Macready has been an active member of prominent organizations such as the Audio Engineering Society and DeMolay.
Mr. Macready's academic background includes coursework at community college, which provided foundational knowledge that supported his multifaceted career pursuits and artistic innovation. His professional trajectory was also shaped by influential mentors: his friends Earl Scott and Isabel Blau introduced him to theater; Jim Rado and Jerry Ragni broadened his artistic perspective; and Jim Lawrence of Teletronics imparted technical expertise in audio engineering.
Another pivotal moment in Mr. Macready's life occurred following an accident in 1968 that resulted in brain stem damage; as a result, music became integral to his rehabilitation and subsequent career path. He formally entered the industry at age 18, working with theater groups financed by Jim Rado and later composing music for productions written by Earl Scott.
Throughout the 1980s and into the mid-1990s, Mr. Macready also made an impact through behind-the-scenes political activism. Though he initially maintained an independent stance, experiences related to friends who were affected by civil conflict in Nicaragua prompted him to become more deeply involved with Central American initiatives. He wrote policy papers contributing ideas such as a novel method for transferring water from Alaska and the Columbia River to California and Baja California using a unique undersea pipeline technology he designed — a proposal that was communicated directly to President George H.W. Bush via the National Security Council as part of a proposal to transport fresh water from Greenland through Israel to the Middle Eastern Nations as part of a plan to stabilize the region. He also wrote a position paper titled "Operation Island Oasis" which was a Middle East Peace Proposal which was distributed at the highest levels of the State Department.
In addition to his widespread accomplishments in music and artist development, Mr. Macready is committed to giving back to those in need through volunteer work in support of veterans' employment opportunities and assisting them in finding odd jobs. Reflecting on his storied journey, he emphasizes the importance of remembering to laugh, thinking outside the box and striving to perform good deeds for one's community as central to long-term happiness.
Devoted to his family life with his wife and three daughters, Mr. Macready is also known for his appreciation of architecture and engineering — interests that complement his artistic pursuits — and enjoys collecting art and paintings. Though his career counts numerous milestones, he is especially proud of fostering creativity by listening attentively to diverse voices within the music industry, knowing that innovative ideas can emerge from unexpected sources at any time.
